I stumbled across this flat on Calle Pizarro during one of those trips where you’re not really sure what to expect – you know, booking something last minute in a town you’ve never heard of. But honestly, La Tejita turned out to be one of those hidden gems that makes you feel a bit smug about discovering it before everyone else does. The place sits right in the heart of El Médano, which is actually perfect because you’re close enough to walk to the black sand beach (yeah, it’s volcanic and pretty striking), but far enough from the windsurfing chaos that you can actually sleep in without being woken up by gear being dragged across cobblestones at dawn.

What struck me first was how the flat feels more like staying at a friend’s place than a typical rental – there’s this lived-in comfort that’s hard to fake. The kitchen actually has everything you need, not just the bare minimum tourist setup, which came in handy since the local market on Calle Médano has incredible fresh fish and produce. I mean, when you’re this close to the coast, you’d be crazy not to cook at least a few meals yourself. The whole setup got me thinking about how rare it is to find a place that hits that sweet spot between being well-equipped and having character. Plus, the neighborhood is genuinely local – you’ll hear Spanish conversations drifting from balconies, not just tourist chatter, which gives you that authentic Canarian vibe without feeling like you’re intruding.

The real win here is the location relative to everything else you actually want to do. Playa de La Tejita is literally a ten-minute walk, and it’s this gorgeous stretch of sand that somehow stays less crowded than the main El Médano beach. On windy days (which is most days, let’s be honest), you can watch the kiters and windsurfers doing their thing from the more sheltered spots, or just head back to the flat and enjoy the show from a distance. Parking isn’t the nightmare you’d expect – there’s usually space on the side streets, though weekends can get a bit tight. The whole area has this relaxed, slightly bohemian feel that makes you want to slow down and actually enjoy your vacation instead of rushing around checking things off a list. I found myself extending my stay by two days, partly because the flat was so comfortable, but mostly because La Tejita has this way of making you forget you have anywhere else to be.

  El apartamento estaba impecable. La ubicación perfecta a menos de 10 minutos de la playa. Es una urbanización muy tranquila donde puedes disfrutar de la piscina y de la terraza si lo que quieres es desconectar. Destacar también la comunicación con el alojamiento, atentos en todo momento.
  
  What could be improved: Nos cobraron un extra de 25€ por llevar a nuestra mascota en concepto de limpieza. Lo aceptamos sin problema y, además, te avisan de que pueden haber cargos, pero es verdad, que nunca nos lo habían cobrado antes en ningún alojamiento a los que hemos ido, por eso lo comento, pero lo entendimos perfectamente.

  Lo que más me ha gustado es la paz y tranquilidad, que se sentía en el ambiente tanto por la piscina como el excelente alojamiento, limpio y pacífico, como la cercanía de ciertas playas, un magnífico alojamiento. Lo menos que me ha gustado fue lo corto que se me hizo la estancia.
