I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Finca La Gaviota, I wasn’t entirely sure I’d found the right place. It’s tucked away on la Sabina street in this quiet residential area of Icod de los Vinos, and you know what? That turned out to be exactly what made it special. You’re staying in an actual neighborhood here, not some tourist bubble.

The whole setup feels like you’re crashing at a friend’s really nice family property. Las Palmeras (that’s the specific section you’ll be in) has this laid-back finca vibe – think traditional Canarian architecture but with all the modern stuff that actually works. The rooms are genuinely spacious, which honestly surprised me after staying in some pretty cramped places around the islands. What really got me was the attention to detail – proper blackout curtains (trust me, this matters when you’re jet-lagged), decent water pressure, and they’ve got this little kitchenette setup that’s actually functional if you want to grab groceries from the Mercadona down the road.

Here’s the thing about the location that most people don’t realize until they get there – you’re literally five minutes from Icod’s center where all the dragon tree action happens, but you’re far enough out that you won’t hear tour buses rumbling past at 7 AM. The owners clearly know their stuff because they’ve managed to hit that sweet spot between accessible and peaceful. Parking is straightforward too, which anyone who’s driven around Tenerife’s old towns will appreciate. I mean, the whole area around Buen Paso is pretty chill, but you’re still close enough to hop over to Puerto de la Cruz (maybe 15 minutes) or even make day trips up to Teide without feeling like you’re starting from the middle of nowhere. The 8.6 rating makes total sense to me – it’s not trying to be some flashy resort, but everything they do, they do well. The kind of place where you actually end up staying longer than planned because it just… works.

    Nice, clean house with a beautiful garden. Great Jacuzzi and the swimming pool was good too. Perfect place to relax.

    The owner was very friendly and helpful.

    Although the town – Buen Paso – is not very interesting, it is a good place to explore the north side of the island.

    What could be improved: The oven was missing baking trays. The showers in the house could do with a bit of renewal.

    Fabulous rural Finca with huge garden and private hot tube. Perfect for family. Spacious, clean and well equipped. Very quite and at the same time close to Puerto de la Cruz and Icod de los Vinos. Really enjoyed our stay and definitely would come back.

    What could be improved: Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing due to several issues.

    The shower: The water heater did not work properly for eight people. After two people showered, the water would turn cold and remain cold for hours. On the first night, the owner came to fix it, and it worked for one evening, although the eighth person still had to shower with cold water. However, on the following nights, it stopped working again. On the last evening, the owner came to fix it and realized that the gas bottle for heating the water had run out. While he replaced it, it was too late since it was our last night.

    The jacuzzi: It worked well for the first two evenings, with warm water, but on the third night, the water would not heat past 30°C. In January, this was far too cold, as it should be at least 38°C. The issue was resolved the following day, but it still disrupted a day and a half of our stay.

    Amenities: The house itself was very basic. While towels and bed sheets were provided, there were no soaps, dishwasher tablets, or washing machine tablets. There was also no salt, pepper, or any basic supplies that one might expect, especially if left by previous guests. This was unusual and inconvenient. On the positive side, there were enough glasses, cutlery, and pans.

    Accessibility: The finca is located down a steep hill, making it difficult to access each time. The nearest town is a 10-minute drive away.

    While the finca has potential, these issues significantly affected our experience. We hope the owners take these comments into account to improve the experience for future guests.

    El anfitrión muy servicial, con cada problema que tuvimos nos ayudo sin problema. La casa como tal muy chula, el jardín genial, perfecto para hacer barbacoas y tomarse algo. El jacuzzi muy bien también. Lo único que para quien no lleva coche, la cuesta que hay que subir para coger la guagua es algo a tener en cuenta. Relación calidad-precio impecable.

    У будинку є все необхідне для родини з дорослими, дітьми 8 років і малюками 2 років. Простору багато — він безпечний для найменших і комфортний для дорослих. Є можливість готувати, відпочивати, насолоджуватись джакузі й басейном, а також спостерігати за Тейде — усе це створює ідеальні умови для чудового відпочинку. А Роберто з його помічником — немов непомітні феї, які завжди поруч, щоб допомогти й підтримати.

    La casa y jardín favorece el descanso y la desconexión.

    What could be improved: La presión de las duchas es escasa.
    No disponen de jabón de manos, te dan unos sobrecitod de jabón que reultan algo incómodos.
    Alguna de las camas algo hundidas
    La casa por la zona es muy húmeda. Nos pilló temporal de lluvia y algunas humedades en los lucernarios.
    Nos dijeron que podíamos aparcar en un sitio y al llegar nuevos vecinos, les facilitaron nuestra plaza teniendo nosotros que aparcar en otro lugar.
    Un fuego de la cocina no funcionaba.
