You know, I’ve stayed at quite a few places around Tenerife, but Finca La Gaviota genuinely surprised me. When you’re winding up Camino la Sabina – and honestly, the drive itself is half the experience with those incredible views of the coast – you start to wonder if your GPS is leading you astray. Then suddenly there it is, this beautifully restored finca that feels like someone’s elegant family home rather than a typical hotel.

The thing about Icod de los Vinos is that most tourists just breeze through to see the famous dragon tree and move on, which is actually perfect for guests here. You get this authentic Canarian town experience without the crowds. I mean, you can walk to the historic center in maybe ten minutes, grab breakfast at one of those local cafés where the owner’s grandmother is still making the pastries, then come back to your peaceful retreat. The rooms have this perfect balance – traditional Canarian architecture with those thick walls that keep everything cool, but modern touches where they actually matter (the bathroom, thank goodness, and really solid WiFi). What struck me most was how quiet it gets at night. No traffic noise, just the occasional sound of wind through the banana plantations below.

The staff here actually knows the area – not just the tourist spots, but where to find the best local wine (you’re literally in wine country, after all) and which hiking trails won’t be packed with tour groups. They pointed me toward this incredible coastal walk that starts just fifteen minutes away, something I never would have discovered on my own. The breakfast situation is solid too, with local cheeses and fruits that change based on what’s in season. I stayed during late spring and there were these amazing strawberries from somewhere nearby. One small thing though – if you’re the type who needs to be walking distance from restaurants and nightlife, this might feel a bit isolated. But honestly, that’s exactly what makes it special. You’re close enough to explore the whole northern part of the island (Puerto de la Cruz is maybe twenty minutes by car), but far enough removed that you feel like you’ve discovered something genuinely local. Plus, parking is never an issue here, which anyone who’s driven around Tenerife’s coastal towns will appreciate.

  La ubicación del alojamiento era excelente, aunque de primeras pueda parecer que está un poco alejado. Una vez conoces el camino te parece simplemente maravilloso. Mar y monte. La energía del lugar es una maravilla, se respira tranquilidad y familiaridad. El anfitrión es muy atento y al llegar nos hizo una guía del espacio, instalaciones y normas del lugar. El alojamiento está totalmente equipado con aquellas cosas que nos son útiles y necesarias para el dia a dia. Limpieza máxima, e instalaciones brutales. Dato que me hizo sentir en paz fueron los girasoles y los animalitos.

  Mi pareja y yo opinamos que Roberto es un encanto! Nos hizo sentirnos super cómodos desde el primer momento, nos trató de 10!
  El apartamento donde estuvimos super cómodo y muy bien equipado, tenía todo lo necesario, no sentimos que falta nada.
  También destacar que aunque no está muy cerca de sitios super turísticos, tienes una paz que era lo que íbamos buscando y tampoco estaba tan lejos, todo se solucionaba con un coche.
