Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked into FERGUS Puerto de la Cruz, I wasn’t expecting much from what looked like just another mid-range hotel on Avenida Marqués de Villanueva del Prado. But you know what? This place actually gets it right in ways that surprised me.

The location is pretty sweet if you know Puerto de la Cruz at all. You’re literally a five-minute walk from Playa Jardín (those black volcanic sand beaches that tourists go crazy for), and honestly, being on this particular stretch of the avenue means you avoid the worst of the cruise ship crowds that pile into the town center. I mean, you can still walk to Plaza del Charco for dinner – it’s maybe ten minutes if you’re not in a hurry – but you’re far enough away that you’re not dealing with the noise and chaos every single night. The hotel itself sits in this sort of sweet spot where locals actually live and work, so you’ll see Spanish families at the little café next door, not just sunburned tourists.

What really won me over was how the staff seemed to actually care about the details. Check-in was smooth (they speak decent English, but throw in some Spanish if you can), and they gave me real recommendations, not just the typical “go to Teide” speech everyone gets. The rooms are clean and comfortable – nothing fancy, but the beds are actually good, and the bathrooms have proper water pressure, which you can’t take for granted in older Canarian buildings. The pool area gets morning sun but has some shade by afternoon, which is perfect because the Tenerife sun is no joke, especially in summer. I loved that they had this little poolside bar where you could grab a beer and some tapas without having to get dressed and leave the hotel – sometimes you just want to chill, you know?

Here’s the thing though – this isn’t a resort where everything’s included and you never leave the property. It’s more like a really solid base camp for exploring Puerto de la Cruz properly. The breakfast is decent (nothing spectacular, but they have local cheeses and decent coffee), and then you’re free to wander. Walk down to the old town and hit up the fish restaurants near the harbor, or take the bus up to La Orotava if you want to see some beautiful colonial architecture. The hotel’s positioned so you can actually live like a person, not just a tourist – there’s a Mercadona supermarket about six blocks away, and the local market happens on Wednesdays if you want fresh produce.

I guess what I’m saying is this: if you want a place that’s comfortable, well-run, and puts you in the real Puerto de la Cruz without breaking the bank, FERGUS delivers. It’s not going to blow your mind with luxury, but it’s going to give you a solid four-star experience in a town that’s still got its authentic Canarian soul intact. Plus, parking’s actually manageable in this area, which is more than I can say for most of the waterfront hotels.

  The staff were very friendly. The pool and all day entertainment was super. Breakfast was fantastic but the evening buffet not so good. The room was spotless with a great seaview and the bed was so comfy with lovely big pillows.
  
  What could be improved: We asked for a double bed and we were told we could have this but we would be on the first floor and Lise our sea view. The buffet dinner was a bit disappointing.

  Everything was excellent , we have stayed here many times , but Fergus have updated the hotel very well , all new refurb rooms and facilities. Food excellent and staff were all very good .

  We booked 2 rooms which were arranged very close to each other as requested. 1 room seemed recently renovated, bright and fresh.
  Staff were all very helpful and friendly.
  Pool area was pleasant and clean with a lifeguard

  What could be improved: The second room we booked was poorly lit and seemed tired.
  Breakfast catering could be described as industrial or institutional in scale and quality. A good variety of options and as much as you want but not high quality.

  Very good breakfast, a wide selection of various foods. We really like location. very nice two big balconies with beautiful view. It was really large and comfortable bed.
