The Fairways Club sits on this quiet stretch of Avenida Maria de Los Angeles in San Miguel de Abona, and honestly, when you first pull up, it’s not immediately obvious you’ve found something special. The building itself is sort of understated – classic Canarian architecture without being too in-your-face about it. But then you actually get inside and start noticing the details, you know? The lobby has this warm, lived-in feeling that a lot of four-star places try to achieve but usually miss by a mile.

What really got me was how the staff seemed to genuinely know the area. I mean, not just the touristy stuff everyone rattles off, but actual local insights. The woman at reception told me about this little family bakery about ten minutes down the road that opens ridiculously early – perfect for grabbing pastries before the morning crowds hit the coast. And she was right, by the way. The rooms themselves are comfortable without being flashy, though I’ll be honest, the bathroom could use slightly better lighting if you’re planning to do any serious grooming. The beds are actually decent quality, which matters more than people think when you’re dealing with that post-travel exhaustion.

The location is what makes this place work, though. You’re far enough from the main tourist chaos of the southern resorts that you can actually hear yourself think, but close enough that you’re not stuck in the middle of nowhere. San Miguel de Abona itself is one of those towns that feels authentically Canarian – there’s a proper town square where locals actually hang out, not just tourists taking photos. The drive to the coast takes maybe fifteen minutes, and parking at the hotel is straightforward, which anyone who’s dealt with Tenerife’s summer crowds will appreciate. I stayed there in late September, and the whole area had this relaxed, end-of-summer vibe that was perfect for unwinding. The 8.3 rating makes sense – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place on the island, but it gets the fundamentals right and then some. If you’re looking for a base that feels more like staying in a real place rather than a tourist bubble, this works really well.

  Always congestion at the junction with shopping centre and motorway access, so would be great for someone who just wants to stay in the apartment complex and/or play golf. A lot of overhead aircraft noise but you get used to it. Construction site on North side of the premises. Breakfast offer underwhelming. Staff all great, comfortable well-equipped apartment.

  We booked this at short notice having had to move from an unsuitable holiday apartment.
  We were delighted to be given a lovely two bedroomed, two bath roomed duplex, which overlooked the pool area.
  A complimentary continental breakfast each day was a real bonus. The whole Club was immaculately kept.
  The area was lovely, with a Marina and two golf courses nearby.
