Hotel Description
You know what actually surprised me about Villa Cortes? It doesn’t feel like you’re in Playa de las Americas at all – I mean, you’re literally on Avenida Rafael Puig where all the typical resort madness happens, but somehow this place creates this weird bubble of calm. The whole thing is designed like a Mexican hacienda (which sounds random for the Canary Islands, but honestly it works), and when you walk through those heavy wooden doors, the chaos of the strip just… disappears. The lobby has this gorgeous central courtyard with actual trickling water sounds that drown out any street noise, which is clutch because Las Americas can get pretty rowdy, especially on weekends.
What really gets me is how they’ve nailed the details without being pretentious about it. The rooms – well, they’re more like suites really – have these thick wooden beams and terracotta tiles that feel substantial under your feet. You’ll probably spend way too much time on your private terrace because the views are honestly ridiculous, whether you’re looking at Mount Teide or straight out to La Gomera floating in the distance. The pools (there are several) are where this place really shines though. The main infinity pool has this edge that seems to drop right into the Atlantic, and there’s usually a gentle breeze coming off the water that makes the temperature perfect even in the middle of summer. I’ve stayed here twice now, and both times I found myself just floating there around sunset, watching the light change on the water – it’s one of those moments that makes you forget to check your phone.
The location is actually pretty genius when you think about it. You’re close enough to walk to all the restaurants and bars along the coast (the seafood place just down toward the harbor is incredible, by the way), but far enough up the hill that you’re not dealing with the late-night noise from the clubs. Parking can be a bit tight during peak season, but the staff will sort you out – they’re the kind of people who remember your name and actually seem to care about whether you’re having a good time. The breakfast spread is solid too, though I’d skip it some mornings and walk down to the local market instead. There’s this little café near the marina that does proper Spanish coffee and fresh pastries that’ll cost you about a quarter of what you’d pay at the hotel. Look, this isn’t the cheapest option in Las Americas, but if you want to feel like you’re somewhere special rather than just another tourist trap, Villa Cortes gets it right.
