Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Estudio Mario on Camino San Miguel de Geneto, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place tucked away in this quieter part of La Laguna. But you know what? Sometimes the best finds are the ones that don’t try too hard to impress you right off the bat. The building itself has this understated charm that fits perfectly with the residential vibe of the neighborhood, and parking was actually a breeze (trust me, that’s not always guaranteed in the Canary Islands).

What really won me over was how the staff seemed to genuinely care about making your stay work. I mean, they knew the bus routes to Santa Cruz better than I know my own commute, and when I mentioned wanting to explore the historic center of La Laguna – which is literally a UNESCO World Heritage site, by the way – they didn’t just point me in the right direction. They actually sketched out a little route that avoided the tourist traps and hit the spots where locals actually hang out. The rooms themselves are clean and functional without being fancy, but honestly, when you’re paying what you’d spend on a decent dinner back home for a whole night’s stay, you’re not exactly expecting marble countertops. The WiFi worked great (tested it extensively while catching up on work), and the beds were surprisingly comfortable – none of that rock-hard European mattress nonsense.

Here’s the thing about this location that most people don’t realize until they’re here: you’re actually in the perfect spot to experience real Canarian life without the cruise ship crowds that flood the main plaza during the day. San Miguel de Geneto has this authentic neighborhood feel where you’ll hear actual Spanish conversations instead of tour groups, and there’s this little bakery about two blocks down that makes these incredible pastries that’ll ruin hotel breakfast for you forever. The 8.9 rating makes total sense once you factor in the value – I’ve stayed at supposedly fancier places that cost twice as much and delivered half the genuine hospitality. Plus, if you’re planning to explore Tenerife beyond just the beaches (which you absolutely should), La Laguna is your gateway to the island’s mountainous interior and those incredible hiking trails through the laurel forests. Just don’t expect luxury amenities or a concierge in a suit – this is more like staying at your well-organized friend’s place who happens to know all the best local secrets.

  Todo muy bien, una zona muy bien ubicada, tanto si tienes vehículo o bien prefieres usar transporte público ya que tienes una parada de autobús en la puerta. Manuel ha sido muy amable y el apartamento para ser pequeño es perfecto para pasar unos días. La cama nos sorprendió, para ser sofá-cama era bastante cómoda. Si algún día volvemos a la isla, sin duda repetiremos
