I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Estudio Alma on Avenida J.M. Galván Bello, I wasn’t expecting much from what looked like a pretty standard apartment building in San Miguel de Abona. But you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones that surprise you, and this little gem absolutely did that. The location is actually perfect if you’re looking to stay somewhere that feels authentically Canarian rather than touristy – San Miguel de Abona is one of those towns where locals still outnumber visitors, and you’ll hear more Spanish than English in the nearby cafés.

What really impressed me was how thoughtfully everything’s been set up inside. The studios (hence the name, I guess) are way more spacious than you’d expect, and whoever designed them actually understands how people travel. There’s proper counter space in the kitchenette – not just some tiny corner where you can barely fit a coffee cup – and the beds are genuinely comfortable, not those rock-hard mattresses you sometimes get in vacation rentals. The whole place has this calm, minimalist vibe that’s surprisingly relaxing after a day of exploring. I mean, it’s not fancy in a flashy way, but it’s… well, it’s smart. Everything just works. The Wi-Fi is solid (tested it during a video call with work), the shower has actual water pressure, and the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a helicopter landing on your roof.

Here’s the thing about San Miguel de Abona that most people don’t realize – you’re actually in this sweet spot between the airport and the southern beaches. It’s maybe fifteen minutes to places like El Médano or Los Abrigos, where you can get incredible fresh fish without the Playa de las Américas prices. And if you’re renting a car (which you should), parking around Estudio Alma is surprisingly easy compared to the coastal towns. The area gets pretty quiet at night, which might be boring if you’re looking to party, but it’s perfect if you want to actually sleep. There’s a small supermarket within walking distance, and I found this little bakery called Panadería something-or-other about two blocks away that does these amazing pastries – honestly better than anything I had at the resort hotels. The 9.1 rating makes total sense to me because it’s one of those places that just gets the basics right without any fuss, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need.
