Hotel Description

I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to El Castillito Studios on Calle el Castillo, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes the unassuming spots surprise you the most. This little gem sits right in the heart of Buenavista del Norte, and I mean that literally – you’re basically in the middle of everything that matters in this quiet corner of Tenerife’s northwest coast.

The studios themselves are exactly what you’d want if you’re planning to actually live a bit like a local rather than just crash between tourist activities. Each unit has a proper kitchenette (not those joke setups with a mini-fridge and a prayer), and the owners clearly thought about what people actually need. The Wi-Fi works well enough for video calls – I tested it because, well, work doesn’t stop just because you’re looking out at the Atlantic. Speaking of views, if you can snag one of the upper studios, you’ll get glimpses of the ocean between the traditional Canarian houses. The whole area has this authentic vibe that the southern resort towns lost decades ago, honestly.

What really sold me on this place was how the staff – actually, I think it’s family-run – genuinely seemed to care about helping you navigate the area. They pointed me toward this incredible local bakery about two blocks down (just follow the smell of fresh bread in the morning), and when I mentioned wanting to explore the Teno Mountains, they had actual hiking maps with handwritten notes about which trails to avoid after rain. You’re also perfectly positioned to walk to the old town center in maybe five minutes, where there’s this tiny plaza that comes alive in the evenings with locals playing dominoes and kids running around. The whole scene feels refreshingly real after you’ve been bombarded with tourist attractions elsewhere on the island.

The only minor thing I’d mention is that the walls aren’t super thick, so if you’re a light sleeper, pack earplugs – though honestly, the neighborhood is pretty quiet except for the occasional delivery truck in the early morning. Parking can be a bit tricky during the day since the streets are narrow and locals know all the good spots, but evenings are fine. Oh, and if you’re planning to cook in your studio, there’s a small supermarket literally around the corner that stays open later than you’d expect. The whole setup just works, you know? It’s not fancy, but it’s comfortable and genuine in a way that makes you feel like you’re experiencing the real Buenavista del Norte instead of some sanitized version of it.

And by a very reasonable price. I loved the location, a quite village by the mountains. A supermarket just 2 min walking distance. And the owner is very nice and helpful! The
