You know how sometimes you book a place based on photos and cross your fingers? Well, this third-floor apartment on Calle el Alto actually exceeded what I was expecting. The name literally means “the balcony of Bajamar,” which sounds a bit grandiose until you’re actually standing on that balcony watching the Atlantic stretch endlessly toward the horizon.

What struck me first was how quiet it gets once you climb those stairs to the third floor. Bajamar itself isn’t exactly a party town (it’s more of a locals’ seaside spot), but even so, you’re really removed from any street noise up there. The apartment has this lived-in comfort that you don’t get in sterile hotel rooms – I’m talking about proper kitchen setup, bathroom that actually has decent water pressure, and honestly, bedding that doesn’t feel like sandpaper. The owner clearly knows what matters to travelers because there are all these little touches you don’t think about until they’re missing elsewhere: good WiFi that doesn’t cut out every ten minutes, blackout curtains that actually block the morning sun, plenty of outlets near the bed.

Here’s the thing about Bajamar that most tourists miss – it’s where Canarians go to escape the crowds in Puerto de la Cruz or Santa Cruz. You’re literally a fifteen-minute drive from the chaos of the main tourist strips, but you’re in this authentic fishing village where the restaurants serve locals, not cruise ship passengers. The natural pools (charcos) are right there when you want to swim without dealing with beach crowds, and honestly, they’re spectacular at sunset. I spent most evenings just walking down to the waterfront with a beer from the local market – there’s something about the way the light hits those volcanic rock formations that makes you understand why people fall in love with this island. The 9.6 rating isn’t just numbers; it reflects that rare combination of location, comfort, and genuine hospitality that’s getting harder to find. Sure, you’ll need a car to explore the rest of the island properly, but parking here isn’t the nightmare it is in the bigger towns. If you want to experience Tenerife without feeling like you’re trapped in a resort bubble, this place delivers.

  This place can not be faulted! Such a comfortable, nicely decorated, modern and very clean appartment! It literally has everything you need. Very nice view and very quiet; you can only hear the ocean and some birds chirping. Communication with host was great too, very helpful and quick answers to questions. Very thoughtful details in appartment; loved the full fruitbowl upon arrival, cookies and wine!

  Brand new apartment with stunning view from balcony. I have no problem to park a car in the street. We were suprised a welcome gift which was waiting for us on the table. Kindly thank you for it. In front of building is a swimming pool. A few hundred meters from apartment are natural beach pools, some restaurants and cafes.
