You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Villa Red Princess on Calle Laurisilva – I mean, the name alone had me wondering if I’d booked some kind of theme park hotel by mistake. But honestly, this place surprised me in the best way possible. It sits right in the heart of Amarilla Golf, and if you’re not familiar with this part of San Miguel de Abona, it’s actually one of those quietly brilliant spots that most tourists completely miss. You’re far enough from the chaos of Los Cristianos to actually hear yourself think, but close enough that you can still grab dinner at a proper restaurant without planning a expedition.

The villa itself has this really comfortable, lived-in feeling – not like those sterile resort places where everything’s bolted down and covered in plastic. The rooms are genuinely spacious (and I mean actually spacious, not “spacious for Europe” spacious), with these great little terraces where you can sit with your morning coffee and watch the golfers attempt their morning rounds. Speaking of which, if you’re into golf, you’re literally steps away from Amarilla Golf Course, which is decent enough and way less crowded than the big-name courses up north. The staff here actually knows the area – when I asked about hiking trails, the guy at reception didn’t just hand me a generic brochure, he told me exactly which path to take to avoid the tourist groups and where to park without getting a ticket.

What really sold me on this place though was the practical stuff that travel websites never mention. The parking is actually free and there’s plenty of it, which is honestly a miracle in this part of Spain. The WiFi works everywhere, not just in the lobby, and the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a jet engine taking off – trust me, I’ve stayed in places where you have to choose between sleeping and staying cool. The pool area gets great sun in the afternoons but isn’t directly overlooked by a bunch of other rooms, so you can actually relax without feeling like you’re performing for an audience. And here’s something I really appreciated – they don’t blast music around the pool area, so you can actually read a book or have a conversation without shouting. The location puts you about fifteen minutes from some really solid beaches (Playa de la Tejita is my personal favorite – locals go there, which tells you everything), and you’re close enough to the TF-1 that getting around the island is pretty straightforward. Look, it’s not going to blow your mind with luxury, but Villa Red Princess does exactly what a good hotel should do – it gets out of your way and lets you enjoy your vacation without any drama.
