Hotel Description
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Diego’s Home on Paseo Estocolmo – honestly, the name made me think it might be one of those overly cutesy places that tries too hard. But walking through the doors, I actually got it. This really does feel like staying at someone’s well-appointed home, just one where Diego happens to be an incredibly thoughtful host.
The location is honestly perfect if you want to experience Arona without being stuck in the tourist bubble. You’re tucked away on this quiet residential street, but it’s maybe a ten-minute walk to the main drag where all the restaurants are. I mean, you can hear the occasional car, but it’s nothing like the constant hum you get closer to the coast. The whole area has this authentic Spanish neighborhood vibe – there’s a little bakery two blocks down that locals actually go to (not just tourists), and you’ll see people walking their dogs in the evenings. Parking was surprisingly easy too, which… well, anyone who’s driven around the Canaries knows that’s not always a given.
What really sold me on this place was the attention to detail. Diego – and I’m pretty sure it’s actually Diego who handles most things, not some faceless management company – seems to anticipate what you need before you realize you need it. The rooms have these little touches that make sense: proper reading lights (not just ambient mood lighting), decent water pressure in the shower, and outlets where you actually want to plug things in. The common areas feel lived-in but not worn out, if that makes sense. There’s this courtyard area where people naturally end up chatting in the evenings – I met a German couple there who’d been coming back for three years running, which honestly tells you everything you need to know. The WiFi actually works throughout the building, the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a freight train, and the beds are firm enough that you don’t feel like you’re sinking into quicksand. Sometimes it’s the basics that matter most, you know?
I stayed there during shoulder season in October, and the whole place had this relaxed energy – busy enough that there was life in the common areas, but quiet enough that you could actually sleep past 7 AM if you wanted to. The 8.9 rating makes complete sense when you experience it firsthand. It’s not luxury in the marble-and-gold sense, but it’s the kind of place where everything just works the way it should. Diego clearly cares about the experience his guests have, and it shows in ways that go beyond the standard hotel playbook. If you’re looking for somewhere that feels authentic but comfortable, somewhere you can actually relax instead of just crash between tourist activities, this is your spot.

Diego’s apartment is ideally situated for exploring both Los Cristianos and Arona, within a walking distance from the amazing Las Vistas beach. It’s well-equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable one-week stay, making it a home away from home. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and would happily return, especially if the excellent price-to-quality ratio remains!
