Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Cozy Fraile on Islas Canarias street, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes the best finds are the ones that surprise you, and this little spot in Las Galletas really grew on me during my stay.

The thing about Las Galletas is that it’s not trying to be Costa Adeje or Los Cristianos – it’s this quiet fishing village that most tourists zip right past on their way to the bigger resorts. Which is actually perfect if you want to experience a bit of real Tenerife life. The hotel sits right in the heart of the village, maybe a two-minute walk from the harbor where you can watch the locals bring in their catch in the mornings. There’s something really peaceful about having coffee on your balcony (most rooms have them) and hearing the boats puttering around instead of disco music at 7 AM. The beach here isn’t the white sand Instagram fantasy, but it’s this lovely black volcanic sand that gets wonderfully warm, and honestly, it’s never crowded. I mean, you might share it with a few German families and some Spanish day-trippers, but that’s about it.

What I really appreciated about Cozy Fraile was how the staff actually seemed to care – not in that over-the-top resort way, but genuinely helpful. Maria at the front desk (she’s been there forever, apparently) gave me the best restaurant recommendations, including this tiny tapas place called El Rincón that’s literally around the corner but completely invisible unless you know to look for it. The rooms are clean and comfortable, nothing fancy but everything works. The AC is decent, which matters more than you’d think in summer, and the beds are actually pretty good. Sure, the WiFi can be spotty if you’re trying to upload vacation photos, but come on – you’re in the Canary Islands, not a business hotel in Madrid. The breakfast is simple but fresh, with proper Spanish tortilla and good coffee, plus they always have fresh fruit that tastes like it was picked yesterday. There’s a small pool area that gets busy around midday with families, but early morning or late afternoon it’s perfect for a quiet swim. Parking can be a bit tricky on the narrow streets – I’d suggest asking them about spaces when you book, because finding a spot for a rental car in Las Galletas requires some local knowledge.

What really sold me on this place was the location for exploring. You’re twenty minutes from the airport, which is brilliant for those early flights, but you’re also perfectly positioned to explore the south without dealing with resort crowds. The coastal walk to Palm-Mar is gorgeous, and if you’re into diving, the marina right here has some excellent operators. Plus, honestly, after a day of tourist attractions, coming back to this quiet little village felt like coming home rather than just another hotel room.
