I mean, when people say “4 minutes from the beach,” they usually mean a sweaty 10-minute trek through crowds – but honestly, this one delivers. You walk down Calle Juan de la Cosa, past these neat little apartment blocks with their terracotta roofs, and boom – you’re on La Tejita beach with that gorgeous dark volcanic sand that El Médano is famous for.

The apartment itself feels like someone’s well-loved holiday home rather than a sterile rental. There’s this lived-in comfort to it – the kind of place where you’ll find proper coffee in the kitchen and beach towels that don’t smell like industrial detergent. The owners have clearly thought about what actually matters when you’re unwinding after a day in the sun. The Wi-Fi works (crucial for those “I’m definitely not checking work emails” moments), and there’s decent water pressure in the shower, which sounds boring but you’ll thank me when you’re washing sand out of your hair for the third time that day.

What I love about this spot is how it puts you right in the middle of local life without the tourist circus. Sotavento isn’t where the cruise ship crowds end up – it’s where Canarian families come for weekend getaways. You’ll hear kids playing in the courtyard in the evenings and smell someone grilling fresh fish from the morning catch. The supermarket on the corner stocks actual Spanish brands instead of overpriced “international” stuff, and the woman behind the counter will patiently help you figure out which olive oil is best (go with the green bottle, trust me).

El Médano itself is this refreshingly unpretentious town that feels more like a windsurfing village than a resort destination. The beach gets busy with kitesurfers when the trade winds pick up – usually afternoons – but mornings are perfect for that coffee-and-contemplation vibe. There’s parking right near the building, which is honestly a godsend because finding a spot near the beach in high season can be a nightmare elsewhere on the island. The whole area stays pretty quiet after sunset too, so you’ll actually sleep well instead of dealing with club music until 3 AM.

I’ll be straight with you – this isn’t luxury accommodation with a concierge and room service. It’s better than that, really. It’s the kind of place where you unpack properly, buy groceries, and settle in like you live there. The 9-star rating makes sense once you realize what you’re getting: a genuine slice of Canarian coastal life without the tourist tax markup, close enough to the beach that you can pop back for a forgotten book or a post-lunch siesta. If you’re looking for authentic Tenerife – the version locals actually experience – this cosy spot in La Tejita nails it perfectly.

  Great location, close to the beach and a small twon center with a supermarket, bars and restaurants. Nice playgrounds nearby. Free underground parking. Washing machine. Pool. Good value. This part of Tenerife was (at the time of our stay in February) one of the few consistently sunny places, although windy.

  The apartment is very nice and fully corresponds to the description and photos.My husband, son, and I lived here for 2 weeks. The hosts, Lena and Artur, are very quick to respond to messages and were very nice.Fantastic location, as there is a supermarket 2 minutes walk away, very close to the beach, a children's playground near, and the apartment building has a private pool. The pool is very clean, as is the whole building. We noticed that the cleaner works incredibly hard in this building. The pool is not crowded, so we especially liked it. The neighbors are incredibly quiet. Do they even exist?:):)
  The apartment has everything ready for comfortable living. Suitable for both couples and families with children.My only advice is to buy a new pan, as the two existing ones are pretty worn out, but that's a minor thing.
  Safety was very important to us; everything was on a high level here. There is private parking and lots of keys everywhere, so it wouldn't be easy for strangers to enter this building from the street. A few minutes' drive away is a beautiful little town that we recommend visiting. (Los Abrigos)

  The apartment is gorgeous and spacious with a lot of outdoor space. The pool wasn’t very crowded and sometimes even empty. The beach is right down the street and a supermarket across the street. It was the perfect place for a relaxing stay.

  Everything was great. The apartment has its own garage. You can take the elevator directly to the front door of the apartment. The apartment is very large. It has a balcony and a terrace at the top, with chairs, a table and deckchairs. It is true that most of the time there is a little wind due to the location of the apartment. The terrace has a view of the sea and the airports. Airplanes do not disturb the stay in the apartment too much. Our child really enjoyed every time the plane took off. There is everything in the kitchen, more than enough. The apartment also has a pool, which is partially heated.
