You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Costa Isora Frontline on Avenida la Gaviota – honestly, the name’s a bit of a mouthful and 3-star places can be hit or miss. But this little spot in Puerto de Santiago actually surprised me. The frontline part isn’t just marketing speak; you’re literally right there facing the ocean, which means you get those Atlantic views without paying resort prices. The pool area is where this place really shines, actually – it’s got this laid-back vibe where you can float around and still hear the waves crashing just beyond the property line. I mean, you’re not going to confuse it with a luxury resort, but there’s something honest about the whole setup that I found refreshing.

What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to actually know the area. When I asked about getting to Los Gigantes (those massive cliffs everyone talks about), the guy at reception didn’t just hand me a generic tourist map – he told me about the coastal walk that starts basically right behind the hotel and how the lighting’s best in the late afternoon. Puerto de Santiago itself is one of those places that feels authentically Canarian rather than completely tourist-focused, which is getting harder to find on Tenerife these days. You’ve got local bars within walking distance where Spanish is still the main language, and the black sand beach – well, it’s not exactly postcard pretty, but it’s real and the water’s surprisingly clear once you get used to the volcanic coastline.

The rooms are, look, they’re functional rather than Instagram-worthy, but everything worked and the AC was decent (crucial in summer, trust me). What sold me was stepping out onto the balcony with my morning coffee and watching the fishing boats head out while the sun was still low. There’s this honest, unpretentious quality to the whole experience that I think gets lost in a lot of the bigger developments further south. The 7.3 rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it delivers on what it promises. If you’re the type who values location and authenticity over fancy amenities, and you want to wake up to actual ocean views without breaking the bank, Costa Isora Frontline does the job. Just don’t expect marble bathrooms or a concierge service – this is more about being in the right spot to explore the real Tenerife.

  We loved the terrace and the sea view although the terrace has no awning so you cannot enjoy it in the afternoon as it is too hot.
  
  What could be improved: The missing awning makes the terrace almost unusable during the afternoon. Considering that the terrace was one of the key reason to choose this property, we could use it only in the morning and evening.
  The kitchen sink was dropping water and the fridge was not working properly.
  Although we informed the property, nobody came to fix them (we stayed one month!).
  The bathroom has no window so it quickly gets humid and hot.
  The property staff was very unreliable and unresponsive, we scheduled an appointment with the manager and he never showed up and did not call us back to cancel or move the appointment. He also hardly answered our call or WhatsApp messages. Very unprofessional

  What could be improved: El sillón bastante duro, las sábanas y el edredón olían a perfume, me imagino que del antiguo anfitrión, por lo que entiendo que no las cambiaron.
  Tampoco me gustó que habían obras en los pisos que teníamos debajo desde las 8 de la mañana hasta las 15 horas.

  What could be improved: Die Ausstattung ist schlicht und die Betten sind alt und sehr unbequem, Stahlfedern drücken sich durch. Leider fehlt dem Apartment, als einzigem im Haus, ein Sonnenschutz für den Nachmittag. Die Kommunikation mit der Häuserverwaltung dazu war sehr schlecht, ausweichend, hinhaltend und ergebnislos!

  What could be improved: Nos engañaron, cuando llegamos no teníamos piscina, porque estaba en obras.
  No nos habían dicho nada. Y encima nos prometieron que iba a compensarnos un importe y luego al tiempo, después de insistir, me devuelven mucho menos haciéndose los despistados y diciendo que no es verdad solo que yo decía.
  Eso no es ni ético, ni moral, ni legal…juegan con las vacaciones, descanso y sacrificio de las personas.
  NO LOS RECOMIENDO, son pésimos como arrendatarios
