Look, I’ll be straight with you about Coral Teide Mar – it’s one of those places that gets better the longer you stay. When I first walked up to the building on Aceviño street, I honestly wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place, but there’s something about this spot that just works.

The thing is, you’re basically in the heart of Puerto de la Cruz without dealing with all the chaos of the main tourist strips. Aceviño is this quiet residential street that locals actually use, which I love – you’ll see people walking their dogs in the morning and kids playing football in the little plaza nearby. It’s maybe a 7-minute walk to Playa Jardín (the black sand beach that everyone raves about), but here’s what the guidebooks don’t tell you: take the route through the old town instead of the main road. You’ll pass this tiny bakery that makes the most incredible palmeras, and honestly, that became part of my daily routine.

What really surprised me was how the hotel manages to feel both relaxed and well-run at the same time. The staff – and I mean this – actually remember your name after the first day. Maria at reception gave me the best restaurant recommendations, including this family place up in La Orotava that tourists never find. The rooms are clean and comfortable, nothing fancy but everything works properly (you know how rare that can be). I had a room facing the street and was worried about noise, but Aceviño is pretty quiet, especially at night. The only sounds you really get are the occasional scooter and the church bells from nearby – which honestly became kind of charming after a while.

Here’s the thing about the location that took me a few days to appreciate: you’re perfectly positioned to explore both sides of Puerto de la Cruz. Walk one direction and you hit the botanical gardens and all the lush, green hiking trails heading toward Mount Teide. Walk the other way and you’re at the ocean with those dramatic volcanic rock pools at Punta Brava. I mean, where else can you have coffee with a view of Spain’s highest peak in the morning and watch waves crash over black rocks in the afternoon?

The hotel gets an 8.1 rating, and honestly, that feels about right. It’s not trying to be some luxury resort, but it delivers exactly what you need – a comfortable base that doesn’t break the bank and lets you experience Puerto de la Cruz like a person, not just a tourist. The breakfast is decent (nothing spectacular, but good coffee and fresh fruit), and there’s this little terrace area where you can actually have a conversation without competing with pool music or crowds.

If you’re looking for Instagram-worthy infinity pools or marble bathrooms, keep looking. But if you want to stay somewhere that feels authentic to this part of Tenerife – where you can walk to everything that matters, sleep well, and maybe chat with the owner about the best hiking trails – then Coral Teide Mar is exactly what you need. Just don’t skip that bakery on Aceviño. Trust me on this one.

  Location was great for us. Beds were comfortable. Pool was nice. Lots of steps to town but we didn’t mind that. Plenty nice restaurants nearby and basic cooking facilities in the rooms.

  Simple apartments but has all basic/essentials you need. Clean rooms, lovely helpful staff and the hotel surroundings are beautiful. In a great location right next door to shops,supermarket and restaurant. Walking distance to a small black sand beach and only 5 mins (and 5 euros) to the next strip with more bars/restaurants and the amazing outdoor sea water pools.
