Hotel Description

You know what hit me first about Ciel et Mer? The name literally means “sky and sea” in French, and honestly, they weren’t just being poetic – you actually get both from this place. It’s tucked away on Calle Las Palmeras in Los Realejos, which is this quieter part of Tenerife that most tourists skip over on their way to the busier southern resorts. That’s their loss, really.

The building itself sits in this residential area that feels authentically Spanish – you’ve got local families going about their business, kids playing in the streets in the evenings, and these amazing smells of proper Canarian cooking drifting from nearby apartments. I mean, you’re still close enough to everything (about 10 minutes to Puerto de la Cruz if you’re driving), but it doesn’t feel touristy at all. The apartment I stayed in was on the 4th floor – 4D specifically – and the elevator works fine, which is always a relief when you’re hauling luggage. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, none of that overly formal hotel lobby stuff.

What really makes this place special though is how they’ve managed to create this perfect balance between giving you space and making sure you have everything you need. The apartment felt like someone’s actual home, not a sterile hotel room with generic art on the walls. The kitchen was properly equipped – I actually cooked a few meals there using ingredients from the local market down the hill. And the view… well, let’s just say I spent way too much time on that balcony with my morning coffee. You can see the ocean stretching out toward the horizon, and on clear days (which is most of them in this part of the island), you get these incredible sunsets that make you understand why people move to places like this and never leave. The sound of the waves is just subtle enough to be relaxing without keeping you awake – actually helped me sleep better than I have in months.

The neighborhood comes alive in the evenings when the heat dies down. There’s this little bar about two blocks away where the locals hang out – they make these incredible bocadillos and don’t speak much English, but they’re friendly enough that you feel welcome even if your Spanish is terrible like mine. Parking was never an issue, which anyone who’s driven in Spanish resort towns will tell you is basically a miracle. The whole area feels safe too – I walked around at night without giving it a second thought.

I’ll be honest, it’s not for everyone. If you need a pool, daily housekeeping, or a concierge to arrange your dinner reservations, this isn’t your spot. But if you want to experience Tenerife like you’re actually living there for a while, rather than just passing through, Ciel et Mer gets it right. It’s the kind of place where you find yourself planning your next trip back before you’ve even packed to leave.
