Hotel Description

I’ll be honest – I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Chalet Las Viñas on Camino Playa Moreno. The road’s a bit narrow and winds through this residential area in Icod de los Vinos, and you’re thinking “am I going the right way?” But then you see it tucked among the actual vineyards (hence the name), and it clicks. This isn’t one of those cookie-cutter hotels pretending to be charming – it’s actually got that authentic Canarian feel without trying too hard.

The thing about Icod is that most tourists just zip through to see the famous dragon tree and then bolt for the coast, but staying here? You get to experience the real Tenerife. The hotel sits in this sweet spot where you can walk to the historic center – maybe fifteen minutes if you don’t mind a gentle slope – but you’re far enough from the main drag that it’s properly quiet at night. And I mean quiet. No club music bleeding through the walls, no tour buses rumbling past at dawn. Just the occasional dog barking in the distance and maybe some late-night conversations drifting from the terrace. The owners clearly know their stuff because the whole place feels like someone’s really nice country house that happens to rent rooms. The common areas have this lived-in comfort, not that sterile hotel lobby vibe, and honestly the breakfast spread is way better than it needs to be for a 4-star place.

You know what really sold me though? The staff actually knows the area. When I asked about hiking trails, the guy at reception didn’t just hand me a generic brochure – he pulled out his phone and showed me photos from a trail he’d done the weekend before. That’s the kind of place this is. Plus, if you’re into wine (and you’re literally surrounded by vines, so why wouldn’t you be?), they can point you toward some family-run bodegas that aren’t on the typical tourist circuit. The location’s perfect for exploring the north coast too – you’re maybe twenty minutes from Garachico, which honestly beats the pants off the southern resort towns if you want somewhere with actual character. Parking’s no issue, which is a genuine relief in the Canaries, and the Wi-Fi actually works throughout the property (learned not to take that for granted). I mean, it’s not the Ritz, but at 8.9 rating, you can see why people keep coming back. It’s just… comfortable. Properly, genuinely comfortable.

Reviews

  • Nice, peaceful and comfortable, excellent value for money! – Balázs from United Kingdom – 14 March 2025 (8/10)

We spent 5 nights in the basement apartment, it has two bedrooms with two separate bathrooms, and a large living area with a comfortable kitchen.
It’s a quiet place, near the beautiful high rocky Atlantic coast. There was a banana plantation in the neighbourhood.
Icod de los Vinos is maybe the most beautiful town in Tenerife, and an excellent starting point to visit the best places in the island.

What could be improved: We had early wake up calls from the nearby roosters and the local cats…

  • Lovely peaceful property which was just what we needed. – Mcgibbon from United Kingdom – 27 February 2025 (10/10)

It was in a lovely quiet location with a peaceful garden and patio. The bed was really comfortable, it had two good sofas and was very well equipped
Everything was very clean. Pedro, the host, was very helpful.

    What could be improved: Nothing!

  • Quiet location with a good access – Laima from Lithuania – 24 November 2024 (10/10)

The house is in a great, quiet location, next to the farm land (lettuce is grown), several houses. The house is two-story and is rented separately – the first floor with a separate entrance – for one tourist, the second floor with a separate entrance – for another. The resident of the first floor uses the yard, where flowers, mango, papaya, carambola trees grow, and a vineyard grows. The resident of the first floor can see the Teide volcano, but not the ocean, because there is a fence. The first floor has a kitchen with a living room, 2 bathrooms, 2 bedrooms. So, four people can live. The kitchen equipment is more than sufficient: an electric blender, a juicer, coffee machines (for filtered coffee and Nespesso). The beds are comfortable, the bathroom equipment is sufficient. The nearest good beach is San Marco, it is ~10 minutes drive to it. The host is hospitable, speaks Spanish and German. Upon arrival, we found a full plate of fruit and were treated with their own wine (there are more bottles if you want – you can buy them for 4 EUR and consume them).

What could be improved: I worked for a few days, internet connection was slow, although it was possible to work

  • Exceptional – Harmen from Romania – 3 February 2024 (10/10)

Loved the area. Super chill and calm. The garden is amazing. The apartment itself has everything you need including fast enough WiFi to work.

  • Quiet non touristy location with handy parking, great local garage and cafe, kind, friendly and helpful hosts. – Genevieve from United Kingdom – 7 September 2022 (10/10)

    The location, facilities and cleanliness.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • A lovely peaceful, rural location with no traffic or noise. Easy access to Icod Las Vinos etc. – Sally from United Kingdom – 22 April 2024 (9/10)

The fact that the owner showed us round the orchard and gave us a bottle of his wine. The kitchen had useful items food in it.

What could be improved: Double bed bottom sheets were ill fitting and had to be adjusted during the night.

  • Check which bit you are in. – Elizabeth from United Kingdom – 25 October 2024 (7/10)

Check which bit of the chalet you are in! The bottom is nice enough but dark and does not have any views, contrary to the listing.

The garden is lovely, the apartment is nice. Pedro is kind and you have all you need for self catering. You can walk to a supermarket in ten minutes.

Pleaae give the kittens some water and food if you can afford it. Apparently they only get looked after when someone is staying downstairs.

What could be improved: Not having views (think you would from the top).
    Can't walk to anywhere really.
No hot water when there are people staying upstairs.

  • Pobyt był bardzo udany. Miejsce piękne, duży dom. Wlasciciel przywitał nas misą owoców. Jedyny minus to godzina wymeldow – Agata from Poland – 21 May 2025 (9/10)

    Piękny ogród i lokalizacja

What could be improved: Duża ilość kotów, które codziennie od rana witały na ogrodzie. Nie dało się w spokoju zjeść na zewnątrz i zostawić otwartych drzwi do domku bo ciągle wchodziły.

  • Exceptional – Arturo from Spain – 28 April 2025 (10/10)

    El entorno fantástico

What could be improved: La casa muy bien comoda

  • War eine angenehme und erholsame Woche. – Christiane from Germany – 27 February 2025 (9/10)

Zur Begrüßung warteten eine großer Obstteller und eine Flasche Rotwein auf mich.
    Die Wohnung lag sehr ruhig.
