Look, I’ll be honest – when I first saw the name “Cerca del mar 500mbs WIFI,” I thought it was going to be one of those places that prioritizes internet speed over everything else. But you know what? Sometimes that combination of good connectivity and seaside location is exactly what you need, and this place on Avenida Olof Palme actually nails it.

The thing about Puertito de Güímar is that it’s not your typical Tenerife tourist trap – it’s this small fishing village that feels genuinely local, even though you’re still close enough to the action when you want it. The hotel sits right where you can hear the waves (hence the “cerca del mar” part), but it’s not so close that you’re dealing with salt spray on your balcony or that constant ocean noise that some people find overwhelming. I mean, the sound is there if you want it, but you can actually sleep with the windows open without feeling like you’re camping on the beach. The 500mbs wifi thing isn’t just marketing speak either – I was video calling family back home without any lag, which honestly surprised me because island internet can be pretty hit or miss.

What really got me was how the staff seemed to know the area inside and out. They pointed me toward this little path that leads down to the actual puertito (the tiny harbor) where locals still bring in their catch, and there’s this bar there – I won’t spoil it by naming it – where you can get fresh fish that was literally swimming that morning. The hotel itself has that solid 4-star feel without being stuffy about it. Rooms are clean and comfortable, with decent air conditioning that doesn’t sound like a jet engine, and the beds are actually firm enough to sleep well on. Parking was easier than I expected too, which is saying something for this part of the coast. The only minor thing I’d mention is that if you’re not renting a car, you’ll want to factor in some taxi costs or bus schedules, because while the location is peaceful, it’s not exactly walking distance to major shopping or the busier resort areas. But honestly, that’s part of what makes it special – you get that authentic Canarian coastal experience without sacrificing modern comforts like reliable internet and good service. The 8.8 rating makes total sense when you consider you’re getting genuine local flavor, solid amenities, and a spot where you can actually relax without feeling like you’re missing out on the “real” Tenerife.
