Hotel Description
You know what? The Catalonia Punta del Rey caught me off guard in the best way possible. I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to this place on Avenida Marítima, I was expecting just another beachfront hotel trying too hard to impress. But there’s something refreshingly unpretentious about this spot that grows on you pretty quickly.
The thing about Candelaria is that it’s not your typical Tenerife tourist trap – it’s actually got some real character. This hotel sits right where the locals still outnumber the tourists, which means you’re getting authentic Canarian life happening right outside your window. The morning sounds are fishing boats heading out rather than party buses heading in, if you catch my drift. And honestly, that 7.8 rating feels about right – it’s not trying to be a luxury resort, but it delivers solidly on what matters. The rooms are comfortable without being fancy, and the staff… well, they actually seem to care about whether you’re having a good time. I mean, the front desk guy remembered my name after two days and started recommending local spots that weren’t in any guidebook I’d seen.
What really makes this place work is its location – you’re literally a ten-minute walk from the Basilica de Candelaria (which, by the way, is absolutely worth seeing even if you’re not religious). The hotel faces the ocean, so you get those Atlantic views without the Atlantic prices of the southern resorts. The pool area gets busy around 11 AM when families start filtering down, but if you’re an early riser like me, you can have the whole place to yourself with your coffee. Parking was surprisingly easy – there’s a decent-sized lot that never seemed completely full, even in peak season. One small thing that bugged me initially was the Wi-Fi being a bit spotty in some rooms, but honestly, being slightly disconnected ended up being part of the charm. The restaurant does solid traditional food – their papas arrugadas are legit, and they don’t water down their mojo sauce for tourist palates. You’re also close enough to Santa Cruz that you can easily day-trip there, but far enough away that you don’t have to deal with cruise ship crowds every single day. Look, this isn’t going to be the most Instagram-worthy hotel you’ve ever stayed in, but sometimes that’s exactly what you need. It’s the kind of place where you can actually relax without feeling like you’re missing out on something more exciting happening elsewhere.

The food was superb great variety for both morning and evening meals. The staff were most helpful and friendly with really good English too
What could be improved: Not muchExceeded my expectations – Gabrielle from United Kingdom – 4 January 2025 (9/10)
The staff were friendly and helpful. There were lots of little efforts and small touches that made us feel very welcomed, safe, and at home. The hotel had a bit of everything and appeared to cater to everyone's needs. A really great few days there, I wish we could have stayed longer
What could be improved: That I couldn't stay for longer because the hotel was full!!A lovely, quiet stay where the premium upgrade was well worth it for us. – Joshua from United Kingdom – 22 September 2024 (9/10)
Premium room upgrade was well worth it for us, we had a great time. Loved using the solarium and how peaceful the local area was. Perfect for a quiet stay. Lots of good entertainment in the evenings too.
What could be improved: The all inclusive buffet could be hit or miss depending on when you visited. If you went later in the evening, some of the food would be cold or going stale. It was broadly fine but there were a handful of meals that were disappointing.Good – György from Germany – 4 September 2024 (7/10)
Great Breakfast

Breakfast is excellent ! Such a variety !
Stuff was very nice and allowed us to stay in the lobby until our bus was there.
There were a lot of entertainment for the tourists.
What could be improved: The room did not look at all like a 4 stars hotel. Hardly a 3 stars.
It was the most expensive and the worst accommodation that I have in Tenerife.Superb – Robert from United Kingdom – 13 March 2024 (9/10)
