Hotel Description

Look, I’ll be straight with you about the Catalonia Oro Negro – it’s one of those places that grows on you, even though your first impression might be “well, this is solidly… fine.” The hotel sits right on Arquitecto Gómez Cuesta, which honestly sounds fancier than it is, but here’s the thing – you’re literally a three-minute stumble from the main strip of Playa de las Americas, and I mean that in the best possible way.

The building itself has this sort of retro charm that screams early 2000s resort vibes, but actually, that works in its favor. The lobby’s got these warm terracotta tones and the staff – genuinely friendly people who seem to remember your name by day two, which is rarer than you’d think in this part of Tenerife. What really sold me on this place was the pool area. It’s not huge, but it catches the afternoon sun perfectly, and there’s this little corner where you can actually escape the German tourists doing their synchronized swimming routines (and I say that with love – they’re having a blast). The rooms are clean and functional – nothing Instagram-worthy, but the AC works like a dream, which you’ll appreciate when that Canarian heat hits in the afternoon.

Here’s what nobody tells you about staying here: you’re positioned perfectly to avoid the absolute chaos of the Veronicas Strip while still being close enough to wander over when you want some nightlife. The hotel’s restaurant does a decent breakfast – their tortilla española is surprisingly good, though skip the “international” options and stick with the local stuff. You know what impressed me most? The soundproofing is actually pretty solid for a 3-star. I was expecting to hear every conversation from the hallway, but honestly, once you’re in your room, it’s peaceful. The only real noise issue is if you get a room facing the street – there’s a bit of traffic, but it dies down after 11 PM. Oh, and parking – there’s a garage underneath that costs extra, but street parking around here is like winning the lottery, so just budget for it. The area gets busy during German school holidays (basically all of October and parts of July), but if you’re here in late spring or early fall, you’ll have the pool mostly to yourself in the mornings. It’s not luxury, but it’s honest – and sometimes that’s exactly what you need for a proper Canarian getaway.

I recently stayed at this pretty hotel in sunny Tenerife and I couldn’t have been more pleased with my experience. From the moment I arrived, the staff were incredibly helpful and welcoming, always ready to assist with anything I needed.

The rooms were spacious and very comfortable, with beds that made for a perfect night’s sleep. The hotel itself is charming, with lovely decor and a relaxing atmosphere.

One of the highlights was the food – both breakfast and dinner offered an incredible variety of choices, catering to all tastes. Everything was fresh, delicious and well-presented.

Overall, I had a fantastic stay and will definitely be returning in the future. Highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for comfort, great service and amazing time in Tenerife!

Pleasant enough hotel in a decent location only a 10 minute walk from most of the main bars, restaurants and beach areas. Breakfast was ok and a good choice of stuff. Rooms were very clean and my bed was very comfy. Nice balcony but pot luck where your located and the view you get unless you pay extra to guarantee it. Didn't use the pool so can not comment nor the entertainment but seemed a nice bit going on in the hotel bars of an evening.
    Free gym too.
