Hotel Description
You know what? The Catalonia Las Vegas surprised me – and I mean that in the best way possible. When I first heard the name, I’ll be honest, I was expecting something a bit tacky or over-the-top, but it’s actually this sleek, modern place right on Avenida Colón that feels more like a sophisticated city hotel than your typical Canary Islands resort. The adults-only policy really shows here – there’s this calm, almost zen-like atmosphere that you just don’t get at family places. I checked in on a Thursday afternoon and the whole lobby had this quiet buzz of couples having coffee and reading, nobody rushing around with pool inflatables or screaming kids.
The location is honestly perfect if you want to actually experience Puerto de la Cruz rather than just hide away at a resort. You’re literally a two-minute walk from the main shopping area and maybe five minutes from Plaza del Charco, where all the good restaurants are. I spent most evenings wandering down to the harbor area – there’s this great little tapas place called El Limón that the hotel staff recommended, and they were spot on. The rooms themselves are clean and modern, nothing fancy but they’ve got that minimalist thing going on that actually works. The bathroom was surprisingly spacious, and the bed was firm (which I personally love, but if you’re into soft mattresses, just know). What really got me though was the rooftop pool area – it’s not huge, but it’s got these amazing views of the Orotava Valley and Mount Teide on clear days. I’d grab a coffee up there around 8 AM before it got busy, and honestly, it was the highlight of most mornings.
The service is where this place really shines. The front desk staff actually know the area – like, really know it. When I asked about hiking trails, they didn’t just hand me a generic brochure, they drew me a little map to this lesser-known path that leads to some incredible viewpoints above the town. The housekeeping is thorough without being intrusive, and they restocked the minibar daily (though fair warning, it’s pricey like everywhere else). I did notice the walls are a bit thin – you can hear conversations from the hallway sometimes – but it’s not a party hotel, so it never got rowdy. The WiFi worked perfectly throughout the building, which was clutch since I was working remotely for part of my stay. If you’re looking for a place that feels grown-up and gives you a real taste of Puerto de la Cruz without the chaos, this is it. Just don’t expect a beach resort vibe – you’re in town, which means you’ll hear some street noise and you’ll need to walk about ten minutes to get to the nearest decent beach at Playa Jardín.

The hotel is a bit outdated. It was probably built in the 1980s or 1990s, so the facilities feel quite old-fashioned. Even the guests at the hotel are mostly in their 80s or 90s. However, despite the room’s very old-fashioned decor and the bathroom feeling like something out of a nursing home, the view was absolutely breathtaking, everything was clean, and it was comfortable. Dinner was decent. Overall, it was a good experience. Just keep in mind that if you’re young, it might not be the most suitable place to stay—unless you’re primarily looking to enjoy the stunning sea view, which was definitely great value for the price.
