You know what hit me first about La Espiral? It’s not just another eco-lodge throwing around buzzwords – this place actually lives up to the whole “ecological finca” thing. I mean, when you’re winding up that narrow Camino El Riego road in Icod el Alto, you start wondering if your GPS is playing tricks on you. But then you arrive and suddenly understand why they called it “La Espiral” – the property literally spirals up this hillside with these incredible casas dotted around like someone carefully placed them to catch the best views.

The ocean views are honestly ridiculous – and I don’t say that lightly. From most of the houses, you’re looking straight out over the Atlantic, with Tenerife’s dramatic coastline stretching below you. What really gets me is how quiet it is up there. You’re maybe fifteen minutes from the main TF-5 highway, but it feels like you’re in another world entirely. The owners have done something smart with the layout too – each casa feels completely private, even though you’re sharing this gorgeous finca with other guests. I stayed in one of the mid-level houses (there are several scattered at different elevations), and honestly, I barely saw my neighbors except for the occasional friendly wave.

The ecological aspect isn’t just for show either. They’ve got solar panels that actually work, rainwater collection systems, and this whole permaculture garden situation that supplies a lot of the produce. The woman who manages the place – I think her name was Carmen – knows every plant on the property and will absolutely tell you about their composting system if you show even mild interest. Some people might find that a bit much, but I actually loved how passionate she was about the whole setup. The casas themselves are beautifully rustic – think exposed beams, local stone, and these amazing tile details that feel authentically Canarian without being touristy. The kitchens are well-equipped too, which matters because while there are decent restaurants down in Icod de los Vinos, you’ll probably want to cook at least some meals just to sit on your terrace and watch the sunset.

Fair warning though – this isn’t a place for people who need constant activity or nightlife. The nearest proper town is Icod de los Vinos (famous for that ancient dragon tree, which is worth seeing), and even that’s pretty sleepy after 9 PM. But if you’re looking for a place to genuinely disconnect, read books, maybe do some hiking in the surrounding hills, or just sit with a glass of wine and watch the light change over the ocean, La Espiral is pretty much perfect. The 9.3 rating makes total sense – it’s not fancy in a luxury resort way, but it’s exactly what it promises to be, and sometimes that’s worth more than all the marble lobbies in the world.

  It is a really special location, quiet with grand views on the sea. We liked the little blockhouse instantly. It is well made and designed and has this special cosy feel well factor. Ideal location if you like it quiet, and relaxing, to hibernate over the winter months, to read, to explore….The house would be great for an author to take time offf to write a novel or something.
  
  One great feature of the house is that the water is being filtered by a filter unit, so there is no need to buy drinking water in plastic bottles. The kitches in well equipped and there are no issues with getting hot water, neither in the kitchen nor in the shower.
  
  The matresses are very comfortable (which certainly cannot be said about every accomodation I have experienced on Tenerife).
  
  Another great feature is the huge, terrassed garden to of the property, which you are allowed to access and even to pick lettuce from.
  
  The hosts are a lovely and very helpful family.
  
  It will be our return address whenever we are staying on Tenerife.
  
  What could be improved: There was nothing we did not really like. Sometimes there was prolonged dog barking to be heared from a dog enclosure in the distance, but then this is the case for many locations on Tenerife and it is balanced by having almost no traffic noises.

  Lo principal, los anfitriones, tanto Cynthia como Carlos. El alojamiento tiene probablemente las mejores vistas que puedas encontrar en esa zona de la isla. Las instalaciones son un auténtico lujo para ir a disfrutar de la paz y la tranquilidad del entorno. Puedes desde hacer una barbacoa a simplemente sentarte en una de sus terrazas a disfrutar del paisaje y el atardecer. Las camas son muy confortables, se nota que no escatimaron en gastos a la hora de hacerse sentir en tu propia casa. Repetiremos sin dudarlo y recomendada al 100%
  
  What could be improved: La carretera para llegar asusta un poco la primera vez, pero está muy bien acondicionada y no es nada peligrosa. Sin duda merece la pena hacer ese recorrido para llegar a la finca y encontrar paz y tranquilidad.
