Hotel Description
Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of rural hotels in Tenerife, but Casa Rural Finca Las Dulces honestly caught me off guard – and I mean that in the best way possible. You know how these traditional fincas can sometimes feel a bit… well, stuffy? This place manages to keep all that authentic Canarian charm without making you feel like you’re sleeping in a museum. The moment you pull up that winding road off Carretera Los Pajales (and yes, GPS does get a little confused here, so don’t panic), you’re greeted by this gorgeous stone building that looks like it’s been part of the landscape forever. The smell of pine from the surrounding forests hits you immediately – it’s actually quite intoxicating after breathing in airport and rental car air.
What really sets this place apart is how they’ve nailed the balance between rustic and comfortable. The rooms have these thick stone walls that keep things naturally cool during the day, but honestly, the beds are some of the most comfortable I’ve encountered in the Canary Islands. The owner, who’s usually around during check-in, clearly knows the area inside and out – she gave us directions to this incredible hiking trail that most tourists never find, plus recommendations for local restaurants that weren’t just the usual suspects. The breakfast spread is particularly impressive, featuring local cheeses and honey that I’m pretty sure comes from somewhere nearby (you can taste the difference). I will say the Wi-Fi can be a bit spotty in some rooms – not a deal-breaker, but worth mentioning if you’re planning to work remotely.
The location is what really makes this place special though. You’re tucked away in Chío, which means you get that peaceful countryside vibe without being completely cut off from civilization. It’s about a 20-minute drive to the coast if you want beaches, but honestly, some of my favorite moments were just sitting on their terrace in the evenings, watching the sunset paint the mountains these incredible colors. The silence up here is something else – no traffic noise, just the occasional bird and the wind through the trees. During peak season (July and August), it does get busier, but even then it never feels crowded. Parking is straightforward, which is more than I can say for a lot of places in the more touristy areas. If you’re looking for a base to explore Teide National Park or just want to experience a different side of Tenerife – one that feels more connected to the island’s agricultural roots – this is your spot. Just don’t expect to stumble upon it by accident; it’s definitely a place you need to seek out intentionally.
