Hotel Description

You know what? Casa Rafter Abades isn’t the kind of place that jumps out at you from the street – it’s tucked away on Calle los Abriguitos, which honestly sounds more charming than it looks at first glance. But here’s the thing about this little spot in Abades: it completely surprised me. I mean, when you’re staying in a village that most people only know as a quick stop on the way to somewhere else, you don’t expect much. The building itself has this weathered Canarian look that could either be really authentic or just… weathered. Turns out it’s the good kind.

The owner actually lives nearby and you can tell – there’s this attention to detail that only happens when someone genuinely cares about the place. The rooms are simple but thoughtfully done, with these thick walls that keep things surprisingly quiet (which matters more than you’d think, since the main road through Abades can get a bit busy during the day). What really got me was the terrace situation – most of the rooms have these little outdoor spaces where you can actually see the ocean if you crane your neck just right. It’s not a full-on sea view, but honestly, for a 3-star place in a village like this, it’s pretty perfect. The shower pressure is solid too, which I always appreciate after a day of hiking around the southern part of the island.

Location-wise, well, you’re basically in the middle of nowhere – but that’s sort of the point. Abades sits right on that stretch of coast where the island feels wild and empty, which is exactly what you want if you’re trying to escape the tourist crowds up north. There’s this great little local restaurant about two minutes’ walk away (just head toward the water and you’ll find it), and the black sand beach is literally right there. Not swimmable most days because of the waves, but incredible for walking. The staff knows this area inside and out – they pointed me toward this hiking trail I never would have found otherwise, leading up into the hills behind the village. And here’s a practical tip: parking is never an issue, unlike pretty much everywhere else on the island. The 8.2 rating makes total sense to me – it’s not luxury, but it’s exactly what it should be for this kind of place. If you’re looking for a base to explore the quieter, more rugged side of Tenerife without dealing with resort nonsense, Casa Rafter Abades delivers in ways that surprised me.

  • Note that this is a basement apartment – Witold from United Kingdom – 4 January 2025 (6/10)

Spacious. Comfy bed. Despite its shortcomings it is fair value for the money paid.

What could be improved: The posted description should state that it is a basement apartment, hence slight dampness and some drain flies. A few barking dogs in the immediate neighbourhood make it hard to relax.

Spiaggetta a 5 min a piedi. È stato facile arrivare ed effettuare il self check-in.

What could be improved: Magari aggiornare le coperte del letto ( la trapunta ecc..)
