I’ll be honest – I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Casa OTERO on Calle la Ballena. Los Abrigos isn’t exactly the flashiest spot on Tenerife, but you know what? That’s exactly why this place works so well. It’s tucked away in this quiet fishing village that most tourists completely miss, about a ten-minute walk from the actual harbor where you can still watch local fishermen bringing in their catch in the early morning.

The hotel itself has that understated Spanish charm that’s hard to fake – I mean, it’s clearly been renovated thoughtfully without losing its character. The rooms are actually spacious (rare for a 4-star in the Canaries), and mine had this lovely little balcony where I could hear the waves but wasn’t overwhelmed by tourist noise. The staff genuinely seemed to know the area well, which made a huge difference when I needed dinner recommendations that weren’t just the usual tourist traps. They pointed me toward this tiny marisquería about three blocks away that I never would have found otherwise – best seafood paella I had on the entire island, honestly.

What really sold me on Casa OTERO was how it felt like I was staying somewhere real people actually live, not just another hotel complex. Los Abrigos has this authentic rhythm to it – the local bars fill up with Spanish families on Sunday afternoons, there’s a small mercado on Wednesday mornings, and the waterfront promenade is perfect for those evening walks when the day-trippers have all headed back to their resorts. The hotel’s location puts you right in the middle of all this, but it’s quiet enough that you can actually sleep with the windows open (something I couldn’t do in Los Cristianos). Parking was never an issue either, which anyone who’s driven around southern Tenerife will appreciate. The only minor thing – and this is really minor – is that the WiFi gets a bit spotty in the evenings when everyone’s streaming, but honestly, that just gave me more reason to wander down to the harbor with a book and a glass of local wine.

  Perfect place for a stay! The apartment is fully equipped with everything one could possibly need, Nuria, the host was so kind and responsive, she suggested food restaurants nearby and was very kind throughout the whole stay.
  Parking in underground garage available, street parking as well, the apartment has a little balcony and a rooftop terrace.
  The area is quiet, plenty of restaurants and terraces nearby, stores.
  The roof is perfect for admiring the colors of the sunset.

  Zelo prijazen gostitelj. V apartmaju je bilo veliko opreme, ogromno drobnih stvari, ki pridejo prav (pripomočki za osebno higieno, kuhinjski pripomočki …), ogromno dodatnih brisač, posteljnine … Parkirno mesto v garažni hiši.
