You know what caught me off guard about Casa Mesa? It’s tucked away on this quiet residential street in San Juan de la Rambla – honestly, I almost walked past it the first time because it doesn’t scream “hotel” from the outside. But that’s actually part of its charm. The building has this authentic Canarian feel, none of that glossy resort vibe you get in the tourist zones further south.

The thing about San Juan de la Rambla is that most people just drive through it on their way to somewhere else, which is a shame because you’re literally perched on Tenerife’s northern coast with these incredible views of the Atlantic. From Casa Mesa, you can actually hear the waves when it’s quiet – and trust me, it gets properly quiet here in the evenings. The staff (I think the owner’s family runs it) really knows their stuff about the area. They pointed me toward this tiny local restaurant about a ten-minute walk away that I never would’ve found otherwise, and honestly, it was better than half the places I’d tried in Santa Cruz.

What really sold me on this place was the attention to detail – I mean, the rating of 9.6 isn’t just because it’s pretty. The rooms are spotless, the beds are actually comfortable (not always a given in smaller hotels), and they’ve got this perfect balance of modern amenities without losing that local character. The bathroom in my room had this amazing rainfall shower, and the water pressure was fantastic. Parking’s easy too, which anyone who’s driven around the Canary Islands will appreciate. The breakfast spread was simple but really well done – fresh local fruit, proper coffee, and they make these little pastries that I’m still thinking about. It’s the kind of place where you end up chatting with other guests because everyone’s genuinely relaxed, not rushing off to some packed tour bus. If you’re looking to explore the less touristy side of Tenerife – maybe check out the Anaga Mountains or just want a peaceful base without the crowds – Casa Mesa gets it right.

  Spacious and well equipped apartment. Functional and stylish interior and outdoor space with plenty of privacy as a bonus. Excellent location in a small and attractive historic town. Easy parking, small shop right across the street and a minute's walk from ocean views. Smooth check-in/out process and helpful owner.
