The hotel itself is housed in what looks like a traditional Canarian mansion, all volcanic stone and wooden balconies, and when you first walk in there’s this immediate sense that someone actually cares about the details here.

What really got me was how they’ve managed to keep the authentic feel without making you feel like you’re sleeping in a museum. The rooms have these gorgeous original wooden beams (some are a bit low if you’re tall, just saying), and the stone walls actually help keep things cool during the day – which is perfect because Garachico can get surprisingly warm even though it’s on the north side. The bathrooms are modern enough that you won’t be cursing the shower pressure, but they’ve kept period touches that make sense. I mean, you can tell this isn’t some chain hotel that got copy-pasted from a corporate playbook. The staff genuinely knows the area too – they pointed me toward this incredible little restaurant tucked away near the natural pools that I never would have found otherwise.

Here’s the thing about staying in Garachico versus somewhere like Puerto de la Cruz: it’s quieter, way more authentic, and you can actually park without losing your mind (there’s street parking near the hotel, though it fills up during the day when people come to see the rock pools). The town has this fascinating history – it was basically destroyed by a volcanic eruption in 1706 and rebuilt, so there’s all these layers of old and older architecture. Casa La Oliva feels like it grew out of that story naturally. You’re a five-minute walk from those famous natural swimming pools carved out of volcanic rock, and honestly, they’re incredible at sunset when all the day-trippers have gone home. The 8.8 rating makes total sense – it’s not trying to be a luxury resort, but it delivers exactly what it promises with genuine warmth. If you’re the kind of traveler who’d rather discover a place than just photograph it, this is your spot.

  Exceptionally comfortable, spacious, modern apartment with lovely sea and mountain views. It was well equipped with everything we needed and very clean. Niels (the owner) was very helpful with providing all the information we needed regarding arrival / departure and local area. There is a large secure parking space.
