Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about Casa Haba? It’s tucked away on this narrow street in El Sauzal that most tourists completely miss – honestly, I drove past it twice before spotting the entrance. But that’s actually part of its charm. While everyone else is cramming into Puerto de la Cruz down the hill, you’re staying in this authentic Canarian town where locals still sit outside their houses chatting in the evenings. The hotel itself feels more like a well-loved family home than a typical 3-star place. I mean, the rooms aren’t huge or anything, but they’re thoughtfully done with these lovely wooden shutters and tile floors that keep things cool even when it’s blazing outside. The staff – well, they genuinely seem to care about what you’re up to, not in an intrusive way, but you’ll find yourself chatting with them about the best hiking trails or where to get proper papas arrugadas.
What really won me over was the location’s sweet spot between convenience and authenticity. You’re literally a 10-minute walk from the coast (there’s this lovely coastal path that connects to the bigger towns), but when you want to experience real Tenerife life, you just step outside. The local mercadillo on weekends is right around the corner, and there’s this tiny bar – I think it’s called Bar Central – where the coffee is ridiculously good and costs about a euro. The hotel’s terrace has these views toward the ocean that honestly make you forget you’re not paying resort prices. I spent way too many evenings up there with a glass of local wine just watching the sun set behind the mountains. Parking can be a bit tricky on the narrow streets (welcome to old Canarian towns), but the hotel sorts that out for you. The only minor thing – and I’m being picky here – is that the Wi-Fi can be spotty in some rooms, though it works fine in the common areas.
Here’s the thing about Casa Haba: it’s got this 9.1 rating because it delivers exactly what it promises without any pretense. You’re not getting a spa or a fancy restaurant, but you’re getting a genuinely comfortable base to explore the north of Tenerife, run by people who actually know the area. The breakfast is simple but uses local ingredients, and they’ll pack you something to go if you’re heading out early for hiking. It’s the kind of place where you end up extending your stay because you’ve fallen into this lovely rhythm of exploring during the day and coming back to what feels like a home away from home. If you’re looking for Instagram-perfect pool shots, this isn’t your place. But if you want to experience Tenerife the way locals live it, while still having a comfortable bed and hot shower to return to, Casa Haba gets it just right.

The house is amazing! It's located in the old part of the town, which is really beautiful, and it's builed in typical canarian traditional style, with a lovely backyard with sitting area and additional toliet, which is very usefull in case more visitors.
It's spacious and very clean, with free Wi-Fi. Kitchen and bathroom are very good equipped with everything you might need for your staying.
Parking places available on the street, normaly no issues to get a parking place in next streets.
Area is quiet, and few steps away is beautiful square with a church and amazing views over the ocean. There's a minimarket and some bars/restaurants nearby.
The beach is not accessible as it's under the clif, but there are other beaches nearby accesible with a car.
The owner Mercedes is a very pleasant lady, she brought us keys personally which was a very pleasant gesture. She's very friendly and ready to help you with anything you might need, also with tips to go around.
I would definitelly recommend the house in case you'd like to explore North of the Island as we did.Superb – Sarah from Spain – 28 April 2025 (9/10)
