You know what caught me off guard about Casa Donald? It’s tucked away on this quiet residential street – Calle Brezo – that honestly feels more like a neighborhood than a touristy hotel zone. I mean, you’re still in Puerto de la Cruz, but it’s refreshingly away from the main drag where all the souvenir shops cluster around the harbor. When I first walked up, I wasn’t even sure I had the right place because it blends in so naturally with the local architecture.

The thing is, this spot actually works perfectly if you want to experience Puerto de la Cruz like you’re living there temporarily rather than just passing through. You can walk down to the old town center in about ten minutes – maybe fifteen if you’re the type who stops to peek into every little café along the way. The Lago Martiánez pools are close enough that you’ll hear the occasional splash and chatter when the wind’s right, but far enough that you’re not dealing with crowds of day-trippers wandering past your window. And honestly, the parking situation is way better than what you’ll find closer to the coast, which matters more than you’d think when you’re hauling luggage around.

What really sold me on the place was how the staff seemed to know everyone’s story within a day or two. Not in an intrusive way, but like – they’d remember you prefer your coffee strong, or they’d mention that the weather’s supposed to clear up just as you’re heading out looking disappointed about the clouds. The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a solid four-star place, nothing revolutionary but comfortable and clean with those little touches that show someone’s paying attention. The bathrooms actually have decent water pressure, which I’ve learned not to take for granted in older European hotels. Some rooms get morning sun, others afternoon – worth asking about when you book if you’re particular about that sort of thing. The 8.6 rating makes sense to me because it’s the kind of place that doesn’t try to be flashy but gets the fundamentals right. You’re not going to find a rooftop infinity pool or a spa with seventeen different treatments, but you will find yourself settling in easily and feeling like you picked well. It’s especially good if you’re planning to explore the island rather than just lounging by a resort pool all week – Casa Donald feels like a proper home base rather than a destination unto itself.

  Spacious, clean and well equiped, helpfull stuff. Overall highly recommended! The garden is beautiful. Just as on the pictures!
  
  What could be improved: It says two bathrooms, but one of the bathrooms is just a tolilet and a sink, not a full bathroom. It was perfectly enough for us. Beds were too soft for me, but its personal preference.

  The location was perfect for us as we are used to staying in La Paz. It was pleasantly quiet (mostly – except for the celebratory fireworks!) and the garden was lovely. The house was very well equipped with all that one needed for a holiday. We weren't sure what the procedure was as regards cleaning but fresh bedlinen was brought to us when requested. One thing I would have liked would be a helpful folder describing the facilities around Puerto in general, plus details of how to use the TV. Try as we might we never did solve the mystery of how to make full use of all the TV channels. But that hardly detracted in any way from the pleasure we had in staying at the property. Indeed, we have already booked to go back!

  Overall the house was nice with gorgeous garden, comfortable mattresses and pillows, unfortunately not too wide beds, but we were fine. However the lack of dishwasher made the stay a bit uncomfortable, because nobody wants to do the dishes during the vacation. WiFi was good.
  
  What could be improved: The main problem was the agency The Ocean Rentals. First, they gave misleading instructions about the check in, like there was a key in the locker to open the doors, but in the fact there was no key inside and it wasn’t even needed, because all lockers were digital. Secondly, the wrong information about the WiFi connection placed near the router. Even the manager provided me with the wrong password when I asked for it in the booking.com chat. Thirdly, in some places the light didn’t work so I had to check the electrical panel by myself.
  But these things were nothing comparing with a dirty bath and a broken jacuzzi. I reported about the dirty bath in WhatsApp by the phone provided in chat, because on the booking.com I couldn’t attach the photo, but nobody answered me. There were big stains around all the bath like nobody cleaned it at all. And there was some black mold around it. It should be treated properly!
  And I asked 3 times about the jacuzzi during my stay!!! But I was ignored. We were staying from 9.03-13.03. In the middle of our stay I was promised that somebody will contact me and tell me how to use it. Only late in the evening before my departure I received the information that jacuzzi hasn’t been working! We didn’t choose the house because of jacuzzi, however it would be nice to use it! So it turned out that jacuzzi was broken, and nobody in the agency even knew about it!
  And the last thing to add is a night door call! A man called to our house in the late evening and told that he had a reservation and claimed a key. Turned out that the agency put a key from a house he reserved, which was located in a different place, into our key locker. That man was a bit drunk and we had an unpleasant conversation trying to convince him that we didn’t have any key and have no idea what was happening.
