Casa Cueva La Herencia Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Casa Cueva La Herencia feels like discovering a secret that locals have been keeping to themselves. This four-star gem sits tucked away on Calle la Degollada in San Miguel de Abona, and honestly, you’d never expect to find something this special in what feels like a quiet residential street. The cave-style architecture immediately catches your eye — it’s not just a gimmick, but actually creates these wonderfully cool, naturally insulated spaces that feel both ancient and surprisingly modern. The property has earned exceptional praise from visitors who appreciate its authentic character and thoughtful design.
Location & Getting Around
San Miguel de Abona isn’t exactly a tourist hotspot, which is precisely why Casa Cueva La Herencia works so well. You’re about a 15-minute drive from the airport (super convenient for late arrivals), and the free private parking on-site means you don’t have to worry about finding a spot — something that’s actually a big deal in Tenerife’s smaller towns. The location gets an 8.8 rating from recent guests, and I can see why. You’re close enough to reach the southern beaches in about 20 minutes, but far enough away to escape the resort crowds completely. The accessibility combined with the peaceful surroundings makes this an ideal base for exploring the island.
The Cave Experience
The rooms here are carved into volcanic rock, which sounds rustic but feels surprisingly refined. The natural insulation keeps things cool during Tenerife’s hot afternoons — you know how the island can get pretty warm even in winter. Each cave room has its own character, with curved walls and interesting nooks that make the space feel intimate rather than cramped. The modern amenities blend seamlessly with the traditional cave structure, so you get the novelty without sacrificing comfort. This unique architectural approach creates an unforgettable stay that balances authenticity with contemporary convenience.
Why Couples Choose This Place
There’s something inherently romantic about staying in a cave house, and the feedback shows couples absolutely love it here. The property has that secluded, away-from-it-all feeling that makes it perfect for romantic getaways. You’re not dealing with crowded hotel lobbies or noisy pool areas — it’s more like having your own private retreat. The peaceful setting means you can actually hear yourself think, which is refreshing after the bustle of the tourist zones down south. Guests consistently return for anniversaries and special occasions, drawn by the intimate atmosphere and genuine hospitality.
Why Guests Love It
That 9.8 rating doesn’t come from nowhere — guests consistently mention how unique and well-maintained everything is. The combination of authentic Canarian cave architecture with modern comfort hits that sweet spot where you feel like you’re experiencing something genuinely local without roughing it. Plus, the owners clearly put thought into the details that matter to travelers. Having secure parking included is huge when you’re exploring the island, and the location gives you easy access to both the airport and the more authentic parts of Tenerife that most tourists miss entirely. The upscale experience here proves that exceptional hospitality doesn’t require a massive resort setting.
Early hotels booking in Tenerife secures paragliding slots, volcanic vineyard tastings, and bioluminescent night kayaking.

There were lots of thoughtful touches upon arrival- water, drinks & a bottle of wine…
There was coffee, tea, salt, sugar, oil, vinegar and more. There were ample cleaning supplies, a stacked washing machine and dryer, plus a unique outdoor clothes drying area. There was even a first aid station with plasters, sun cream, bug spray etc.
There are 2 kitchens with everything you need for preparing meals. The plastic children's plates and cutlery came in so handy.
We stayed between resort visits, so it was lovely for the children to roam free on the extensive grounds.
The moon was enchanting over the mountains, and the geckos scurrying amidst the bushes were
a delight.
There is a super-king bed in one of the bedrooms, a bonus if little people wander into your bed at night.
The bedrooms are not exactly 'connected' as some reviews state.
There are three separate bedrooms along a corridor off the cave living area. They have curtains for doors and there is a gap in the upper walls of each room for ventilation.
Bring earplugs if there is a snorer in your group!
I found it so peaceful falling asleep to the melody of my children's contented breathing.
If you work from home and a strong internet connection is vital, you will have to sit near the wifi router near the front door. The bedrooms are gloriously protected from electronic interference. (You will have the best night's sleep!)
The village of Valle de San Lorenzo is a 2 minute drive.
There are plenty of restaurants there, but they are closed on Mondays, so come prepared!
There is a large Dialprix with plenty of parking to the rear. There is also a 'Chino' in the village, walking distance from Dialprix. The sign outside has 'Bazaar' on it. Here you can find everything you could possibly need: beach toys, household items, etc.
Marco is a wonderful, friendly host.
Book with confidence!

The house is very charming and cozy, every detail is made with attention 🙂 The yard with parking is huge and you have it for yourself! There are a lot of trees around with lemons, oranges and others, which you can taste.
Thanks a lot for the owners, it's our second stay here and we are looking forward to come here next time!Lina from Lithuania (10/10)

Amazing stay! It was a unique experience staying in a cave house. The house was beautiful, spacious, and comfortable. The gardens and views were beautiful. Our flight was delayed and we were behind our estimated check in time but the host was waiting to welcome us. The kitchen was well stocked. Everything was immaculately clean. Short drive to grocery store. Highly recommend!

We liked absolutely everything! The house is very comfortable and cozy! Amazing decoration . The kitchen had everything you may need, even complimentary drinks from the owner! The territory is huge and the house have 3 bedrooms, so you can feel your privacy.
The yard have plenty trees with oranges, lemons and other fruits 🙂 Nice place to meet the sunrise 🌞
Just about 10 minutes drive from restaurants and supermarket. The owner met us and explained everything about the house!
Thank you very much, couldn't wait to come back on our next trip to the island 😀Nathan from United Kingdom (10/10)
If you want peace, quiet, to be close to nature, not too remote but still requires a car, and authentically Canarian, this is perfect! Has everything you need.
The 3 double bedded rooms are nice, quiet and VERY dark, for a good night's sleep. Fantastic indoor BBQ, which I used twice, as the local meat is always very tender & tasty. Recommendations by the host for groceries and restaurants were all excellent and good value. The whole place is very spacious, airy and relaxing, and the outdoor areas are very accessible and user friendly.Brigitte from Germany (9/10)
