So I’ve stayed at Casa Cristina quite a few times now, and honestly, it’s one of those places that just works. You know what I mean? It’s right on Avenida Juan Carlos I, which sounds fancy but it’s actually just the main drag that runs along Playa San Juan’s waterfront – you can literally walk out the front door and be on the beach in about two minutes. The hotel itself is pretty straightforward, nothing flashy, but that’s sort of the point. It’s got that relaxed Canarian vibe where nobody’s trying too hard.

The rooms are clean and comfortable, though I’ll be honest, some of the furniture looks like it’s been there since the ’90s. But the beds are decent and the air conditioning actually works (which, trust me, matters in July). What I really like is how quiet it gets at night – Playa San Juan isn’t one of those crazy party beaches like you’ll find in other parts of Tenerife. It’s more of a local spot where Spanish families come for proper beach holidays. The clientele here reflects that too; you’ll hear more Spanish than English in the hallways, which I actually find refreshing. The staff genuinely knows the area – ask them about the best spots for fresh fish and they’ll point you toward the little places tucked away from the main strip, not the tourist traps.

Location-wise, you’re about a 15-minute walk to the port where the ferries come in from La Gomera, and there’s this great little stretch of black sand beach that never gets too crowded. The water’s usually calmer here than up north, which is nice if you actually want to swim instead of just getting pounded by waves. Parking can be tricky during peak season – there’s street parking but it fills up fast, especially on weekends when locals drive down from Santa Cruz. The hotel doesn’t have its own lot, but there’s a public one about a block away that’s reasonably priced. Check-in is pretty laid-back; they’re not sticklers about the 3 PM rule if your room’s ready earlier. I mean, the whole operation feels more like a family business than a corporate hotel chain, which has its pros and cons – sometimes things move a bit slower, but people actually care about whether you’re having a good time. For a 3-star place, it delivers exactly what you’d expect without any nasty surprises, and honestly, that’s worth something these days.
