Hotel Description

You know what strikes you first about Casa Canaria Tradicional Rosalía? It’s tucked away on this quiet little street – Calle las Arenas – that most tourists never stumble across in Los Silos. I mean, Los Silos itself is already off the beaten path compared to the southern resorts, but this place feels like you’ve discovered something the guidebooks missed. The building has that authentic Canarian architecture that developers try to copy but never quite get right – thick stone walls, wooden balconies that actually creak when you lean on them, and these small windows that make perfect sense once you realize how fierce the Atlantic winds can get up here on the north coast.

What I love about this place is how it manages to feel both historic and comfortable without trying too hard. The rooms have character – and I don’t mean the sanitized “rustic charm” you get at chain hotels. The floors are uneven in that old-house way, the ceilings have actual wooden beams (not fake ones), and honestly, the Wi-Fi can be spotty in some corners, but that’s sort of refreshing. The owner clearly knows the area inside and out – they’ll tell you about the hiking trails that lead down to the black sand beaches, or how to time your visit to the natural pools at Garachico (about ten minutes away) when the tour buses aren’t there. There’s this little terrace where you can sit with morning coffee and watch the locals heading to work, and the silence is almost shocking if you’re used to resort areas.

The location really grows on you once you understand the rhythm of this part of Tenerife. Sure, you’re not walking distance from a dozen restaurants, but the few local spots nearby are exactly where you want to eat – family-run places where the menu changes based on what’s fresh. And here’s the thing about Los Silos that took me a while to appreciate: it’s perfectly positioned for exploring the island’s wilder side. The Teno Mountains are right there, Masca Gorge is a short drive, and you can reach those dramatic cliffs at Punta de Teno without fighting crowds. Plus, parking is never an issue – try saying that about anywhere in the south. The whole experience feels more like staying at a friend’s family house than a typical hotel, which explains that 9.5 rating. It’s not for everyone (if you need a pool and room service, look elsewhere), but if you want to experience Tenerife the way locals do, this is exactly the kind of place you hope exists but rarely find.

  • Amazing – Tom from Belgium – 28 August 2024 (9/10)

Very nice rooms and renovated bathrooms

  • beautiful countryside house! – Marta from Poland – 25 March 2024 (10/10)

Amazing stay, above expectations. The house is beautiful and very cosy and peaceful. Its a very authentic countryside house, renovated, equiped with all necessary facilities but keeping its original charm. We loved to wake up with the sound of birds singing and having breakfast on the patio with the view to the garden and the ocean. Whenever we are back in Tenerife, I would love to be able to stay again in this house:)

  • Exceptional – Amelia from United Kingdom – 20 November 2023 (10/10)

Everything was wonderful, the place had everything we needed. It was so quiet and peaceful. The views were gorgeous and the outside patio was perfect for BBQs and relaxing.
The hosts were amazing and super responsive.
I would highly recommend this location if you’re looking for a quiet spot, up in the mountains.
    Overall amazing!!

  • Exceptional – Jamie from United Kingdom – 30 January 2023 (10/10)

Lovely stay as Casa Rosalia! Hosts were very communicative and late check-in was easy the night we arrived. The location of the house is amazing, tucked in a valley near Garachicho. Quite steep roads getting to the property and narrow streets, but if you are visiting north Tenerife you have to get used to this quickly! Peaceful location perfect to sit out and enjoy the terrace and cook outside using the outdoor oven. Property itself was clean, characterful and full of everything you need for a homestay inc fully equipped kitchen. We stayed in January, so it was a bit colder than in the south, especially higher up above sea level. Heaters and blankets were provided :).

Location for exploring the North of Tenerife is good, especially the North West (Teno, Masca and Garachico, Icod), most within 40 minute drive :). Might be worth noting for other travellers that Teide is a fairly long drive as the two access roads up into the Caldera are a drive east or south before you can start going up!

What could be improved: Little to no issues – the keys were a bit fiddly in some of the doors but it is an old house! Driveway is tight, we had a small hatchback and dinged it slightly on one of the rocks – bigger car I imagine would be difficult to turn around/reverse in, once in though there is a decent flat space to park given the house is on a steep hill 🙂

  • Exceptional – Berthold from Germany – 22 February 2025 (10/10)

Such a lovely house in a small town. A nice garden, many flowers, palmtrees, green spots to relax. A small piece of heaven!

What could be improved: The kitchen in a seperate part of the house is unconventionel, but not bad.

  • Peaceful and exceptional house. – Heather from United Kingdom – 11 November 2023 (9/10)

Exceptional property. Peaceful, comfortable, private. Beautiful garden and views. Very spacious. All you could need. A brand new bathroom with wonderful shower. Thoughtful touches in the house and on arrival. A place to escape to.

What could be improved: I’m not sure if it is under new management but I would have preferred communication in advance of arrival details as I only got them as I arrived at the airport in Tenerife – and I didn’t have access to wifi or phone reception after this. We ran out of gas on the penultimate day and the spare canister was also empty. There was wifi but we only found out afterwards as we were not given the code in advance. The instructions in the house need updating. No apologies offered for any inconvenience. This should not put you off from staying here as I’m sure they can be easily fixed!

  • Very good – Richard from United Kingdom – 11 February 2023 (8/10)

Location, peace and quiet and the house is very traditional and authentic.

What could be improved: It needs more heating in Winter. We had a very cold week and needed more than one heater

  • Traditional, beautiful, cozy – Fedor from Russia – 30 December 2022 (8/10)

Beautiful traditional rural house, very cozy, excellent location for hiking 👍
A bit cold in winter because the isolation is not very good, but with the heater it's fine 👌

  • Dangerous property – Rachel from United Kingdom – 25 January 2024 (2/10)

Charming house but with serious health and safety issues. Because of this, the property is neither safe or comfortable. The electricity cuts out regularly and you will need to go out in the dark and climb to reach the power box. The power is so weak that it cannot sustain electricity even for a tiny heater of 220V without anything else on ( lights or plugs). If you want to have a few lights on (which is necessary as you need to pass through the outside yard to get into the bedroom or kitchen, expect the power to keep shutting down. There are exposed plugs next to water sources. The plugs are so old they often let out electrical sparks when you plug something on. So lights and power are inconsistent and it’s not possible to have heating in this old mountain house in winter. Hot water stops after a few minutes. The entrance to the house by car is very narrow and on a hill so a bigger car would have issues getting in.

What could be improved: The owners are well aware of the house’s defects but they don’t do anything. There are more complaints about the electricity, heating and hot water issues in the comments for this house, which the owners don’t want to act upon.

One evening when i had to go outside in the dark to switch on the power after it cut out i fell on the stones and hurt my arms and legs. I told the owners and they didn’t show the slightest of care. One of them was aggressive to me and started shouting to me when i tried to talk to her in person about it.

Also the owners came a couple of times into the house without warning, so there is lack privacy and respect for the guests.

  • Une maison au charme incroyable ! – Beautier from France – 22 March 2025 (10/10)

Merci Rebeca !

    What could be improved: Rien.
