Hotel Description
You know what? I almost walked right past Bonita Vivienda Vacacional Casa Kuhner the first time I went looking for it. It’s tucked away on Calle de Cólogan – one of those narrow streets that winds through the older part of Puerto de la Cruz where the buildings lean in close and you can practically touch the balconies from both sides. But that’s actually what makes this place special. You’re staying in a proper Canarian house, not some glass box hotel that could be anywhere in the world.
The moment I stepped inside, I could tell this was someone’s actual home that they’d opened up to guests. The floors have that worn-smooth feel of old wood, and there’s this lived-in quality that makes you want to kick off your shoes and settle in for a while. The rooms aren’t huge – I mean, this is a traditional house, not a resort – but they’re thoughtfully arranged with little touches that show someone actually cares about the place. What really sold me was the morning light streaming through the windows and the way you can hear the everyday sounds of the neighborhood waking up: people chatting on their way to work, the distant hum of traffic from the main streets, but nothing that keeps you up at night.
Here’s the thing about the location – and locals will tell you this – Calle de Cólogan puts you right in the sweet spot. You’re close enough to walk to Playa Jardín (honestly, about eight minutes if you don’t stop to peer into shop windows), but you’re away from the tourist crush around the main plaza. There’s a little bakery two streets over where they make these incredible palm-shaped pastries, and if you head downhill toward the water, you’ll hit that stretch of black sand beach before the day-trippers even finish their coffee. The rating of 7.9 feels about right – it’s not luxury, but it’s genuine, and sometimes that’s worth more than marble lobbies and overpriced minibars. The owners clearly know their stuff about what travelers actually need: good Wi-Fi, decent water pressure, and a kitchen setup that doesn’t make you want to eat out for every meal. If you’re looking for that authentic Canarian experience without the tourist markup, this is your spot.

Good – Thorsten from Germany – 7 April 2023 (7/10)
I was there for three weeks in March 2023. booking.com now asks for a rating of very good, good, medium or poor. I would like to say: good over all with a slight tendency towards medium at the moment. Not to be outdone in Puerto Cruz is the location (central, quiet at night and comparatively very pleasant) of the flat, which is also very nice in itself. The flat has all the essentials (although a drying rack would be nice …). But: During the first half of my stay it was very noisy until the morning hours due to construction work! (bad timing …), loud TV and neighbours moving furniture etc. in this very noise-sensitive flat. Sleep was not really possible. It got better during the second half of my stay. The rating with a tendency to "medium" furthermore results from the fact that in my opinion the facility management could have done more to stop the nightly construction noise instead of just offering me a refund for the remaining days if I wanted to move out early. A flat with potential.
Apartment (not an apartment) with an excellent location. Non-functional – lack of a normal table and – Ясен from Bulgaria – 2 April 2025 (3/10)
Apartment/flat – very interesting – no external windows? There are windows to internal spaces (2×2 m.) – the windows to neighboring apartments. Probably the lack of sun keeps the apartment cold – in the evening you have to turn on an electric radiator (available small one with 7 ribs).
Location – excellent – center. A little inconvenient – the sound of the constant ringing of the bell from the nearby church.
Owners – attentive – we have not met. Communication by phone and email.
A woman handed us the keys upon arrival (we had to wait 1 hour for her to come).
A man accepted the keys and cleaned for the next guests. Attentive – helped because we had forgotten something in the refrigerator.
What could be improved: Corridor – 15-16m. Not used for anything, cannot be heated – takes the heat away from the apartment.
Kitchenette:
Hob with 2 heaters/plates. Often locked, especially when cleaning.
Water heater – small, but sufficient.
Refrigerator – good.
Table and chairs – not really there – there is a high bar counter with 2 high bar stools. Uncomfortable to use – eating.
Sofa – old, worn out, with stretched / sagging springs. Uncomfortable to sleep on.
Bed – a bedroom for two. Worn out and sunken in places mattress. The mattress easily moves from the base and you have to fix it daily. Bed linen / sheets – with stretched elastics – constantly gather and need constant fixing.
There is a wardrobe with two compartments (one is locked and cannot be used – there are items of the owner there). The compartment that is used is insufficient – there are 8 plastic thin hangers, which are extremely insufficient for arranging clothes – 4 pcs. per person. And there are no other options – there are no normal chairs and/or hangers (probably due to lack of space).
Bathroom and toilet:
The toilet cistern is adjusted to let out a little water, which makes it difficult to wash. You have to flush it many times.
Shower cabin – small diameter sewer pipes – the sewer cannot absorb the water when bathing. The siphon constantly needs to be cleaned, but the shower cabin still fills with water. The boiler is in the kitchen and you have to wait for the hot water to come – water loss?
There is no option to store luggage for a late flight, which is very annoying. We had to leave at 11 am, and our flight was at 9.25 pm. It is not normal for elderly people to drag suitcases around the city for many hours.
Television – only about 15 free channels in Spanish???
The apartment is noisy. Loud noises from neighbors (from different floors) – especially on weekends and holidays and renovations in the building.De Anul Nou – Mihai from Romania – 2 January 2025 (9/10)

L’emplacement
What could be improved: Les voisins sont extrêmement bruyants, tout s’entendsSuperb – Klaus from Germany – 13 February 2023 (9/10)
What could be improved: Kein Balkon, Kochutensilien könnten etwas reichhaltiger sein.Very good – Ilona from Ukraine – 30 June 2025 (8/10)
What could be improved: дзвони церкви, нема кондиціонераBuen alojamiento con buena ubicación – Nicanor from Spain – 14 May 2025 (8/10)
What could be improved: Un poco incómoda la mesa para comer , quizás demasiado alta y poco funcionalVery good – Lisette from Netherlands – 17 October 2024 (8/10)
Locatie in het centrum
What could be improved: De koel-/vries combinatie maakt geluid ('s nachts vervelend)
Verder primaExpectativas superadas, apartamento muy comodo – Perez from Spain – 25 September 2024 (9/10)
Habitacion muy comoda
What could be improved: Al pasillo le falta una puerta para insonorizarBien salvo detallitos – Ana from Spain – 31 March 2024 (8/10)
