Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Beach House Tajao? It’s not actually right on the beach – I mean, the name’s a bit misleading there – but honestly, that turned out to be a good thing. The place sits on Paseo de la Aurora in this quiet little pocket of La Jaca, and you’re maybe a five-minute walk down to the black sand beaches that make this part of Tenerife so distinctive. The volcanic coastline here is pretty dramatic, nothing like those postcard-perfect white sand places you see everywhere else. When I stayed there last spring, I’d walk down in the mornings and basically have the whole stretch to myself until around 10 AM when the day-trippers started showing up from the bigger resorts.

The hotel itself feels more like a grown-up guesthouse than your typical three-star place – and I mean that in the best way possible. The rooms are clean and comfortable without being fancy, though I’ll be honest, the WiFi can be spotty if you’re on the side facing away from the main road. What really won me over was how the staff actually seemed to know the area. The woman at reception (I think her name was Carmen?) gave me these incredibly detailed directions to this little family-run restaurant tucked away in the hills that I never would have found otherwise. She also warned me about the weekend crowds at the nearby Playa de la Jaca, which saved me from dealing with that chaos. The breakfast isn’t elaborate – mostly local stuff like fresh bread, cheese, and really good coffee – but there’s something satisfying about eating on their little terrace while watching the locals head off to work.

Here’s the thing about this part of Tenerife that a lot of people don’t realize: it’s way more authentic than the tourist strips up north. Tajao still feels like a real fishing village, and Beach House Tajao fits right into that vibe. You’ll hear the sound of boats coming in early morning, smell salt air mixed with whatever the neighbors are cooking, and actually get to practice your Spanish because not everyone speaks English. The hotel’s location puts you close enough to explore the Montaña Roja trail (seriously, do this at sunset), but far enough from the madness of Los Cristianos that you can actually relax. Parking’s free and easy, which is honestly a relief after dealing with some of the nightmare situations in the bigger towns. Sure, it’s not going to blow your mind with luxury amenities, but if you want a genuine slice of Canarian life without the tourist markup, this place delivers exactly what it promises.

Reviews

  • Excellent apart from the cooking facility. – Roger from United Kingdom – 24 April 2024 (8/10)

Location was great. Terrace would have been great but weather was unsuitable for terrace.

What could be improved: The job was very erratic. There were no instruction. When the electric hod had been switched on and the turned off again, it was almost impossible to get it stated again. Maybe it was the child lock preventing further us. This resulted in us being unable to continue cooking dinner one night and food was wasted!

  • We had a wonderful week. Eating out, exploring this wonderful island and also cooking at home. – Matthew from United Kingdom – 16 February 2023 (9/10)

An excellent shop around the corner with fresh bread, pasties and everything you need. Perhaps 6 fish restaurants on your doorstep all frequented by local people. This place is off the usual tourist route, quiet and friendly. Learn a few words just to make people smile! We visited nearly every corner of the island with the road between Santiago Del Teide and Buenavista Del Norte being a must. At the opposite end of the island, the UNESCO area of Macizo De Anaga is amazingly beautiful. Stop to coffee and flan in Almaciga. The volcano is also a different world. The house is perfectly located to explore the island.

What could be improved: Ideally you need a car. A good bus service operates along the coast however the stop is 15 minutes up a steep hill. Okay on the way home!

  • Peaceful, but disconnected. – Paul from United Kingdom – 7 December 2022 (8/10)

Beautiful location. Apartment was clean and modern, with great outdoor spaces.

What could be improved: No phone signal or WiFi during my stay, so had to drive 15 minutes to McDonalds each time I needed to use the internet. I think the internet connection is a problem in the whole of Tajao, not just in this property.

  • Superb – Bojan from Slovenia – 7 November 2024 (9/10)

    Everything ok.

  • very pleasant and relaxing – Phillips from United Kingdom – 26 February 2024 (8/10)

situation view really close to some lovely beaches and lots of really good fish restaurants

  • Perfect place to explore Tenerife. – Dik from Netherlands – 23 October 2023 (9/10)

Perfect location. Including two sun terraces. Nice village with a shop and more than enough fish restaurants. When you have questions the host answers within 5 minutes. You need a car and you are only 1 km from the highway.

What could be improved: The wifi router is not very reliable. It works with a SIM card and you have to play around o bit for the best location.

  • Exceptional – Bjorn from Norway – 19 November 2022 (10/10)

A perfect location right by the sea, and thus with two teracces with sea view. And within 100 meters you will find eight! sea food restaurants.

  • Príjemný apartmán – Martin from Slovakia – 4 April 2025 (9/10)

Apartmán s 2 terasami v malej dedine s množstvom super reštaurácii

What could be improved: Apartmán je dosť malý, ale pre 2 osoby postačujúci

  • Alles in Allem waren wir sehr zufrieden – Juergen from Germany – 2 March 2024 (7/10)

Die zentrale Lage und die Nähe zu den Fischrestaurants

What could be improved: Wegen Sturms konnten wir beide Terrassen nicht nutzen.
