You know what struck me first about Banana Paradise? The name actually makes sense once you’re there – and I mean that in the best way possible. It’s tucked away on Camino de San Diego in La Orotava, which honestly feels like you’ve discovered this hidden corner of Tenerife that most tourists completely miss. The approach winds through these lush banana plantations (hence the name, obviously), and you get these glimpses of the Atlantic through the trees that’ll have you pulling out your phone before you even check in.

The hotel itself sits at this perfect elevation where you’re close enough to hear the ocean but high enough to catch those incredible valley views. I stayed here during shoulder season in October, and honestly, the staff treated the place like their own home – you know that feeling when people actually care about where they work? The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star, nothing revolutionary but thoughtfully done. My balcony faced southeast, which meant morning coffee with sunrise views over the banana groves, then later you could watch the shadows creep across the valley as the sun moved west. The air conditioning worked great (crucial in October heat), and the beds were actually comfortable – not those rock-hard European mattresses you sometimes get.

What really sets this place apart is the location knowledge you gain just by being there. La Orotava’s old town is maybe a 10-minute walk downhill, and locals will tell you to hit the Casa de los Balcones before 10 AM or after 4 PM when the tour buses aren’t clogging up the streets. The hotel’s concierge – this guy Miguel who’s been there forever – gave me directions to this tiny family restaurant called El Rincón that doesn’t even have a proper sign, just incredible Canarian food that costs half what you’d pay in tourist zones. Parking at the hotel is free, which saves you the headache of navigating those narrow old-town streets in a rental car. The pool area gets busy around 2 PM when day-trippers arrive, but early morning and evening it’s perfect for actually swimming rather than just posing for photos. One small thing – the WiFi in the lobby is stronger than in the rooms, so if you need to do any serious work, grab a spot near reception. The breakfast is solid local fare, lots of fresh fruit (obviously), and they make this papaya jam that I’m still thinking about. It’s the kind of place where you end up extending your stay because you realize you’ve found something special, even if you can’t quite put your finger on what that something is.

  The house was clean and had plenty of living and sleeping space for my family of 5 adults. The house is very private and a great location for a peaceful get away. The host sent an email everyday with suggestions for various activities and was very responsive when I had questions. I would highly recommend and would stay again.

  We have booked this as 2 couples, and it was perfect, one bedroom downstairs, and one bedroom upstairs. The view is breathtaking and you can sleep in total silence. The security seems to be superb, but just be mindfull that other people have access to the plantation.
