Hotel Description

You know what caught me off guard about Bahía Luxury Apartments? The name honestly made me expect some sterile, over-polished place, but when I pulled up to Camino las Barandas, it felt more like discovering a well-kept secret tucked into Icod de los Vinos. The building sits on this quiet residential street – and I mean actually quiet, not “quiet” like hotels claim when they’re next to a highway. You can hear the ocean from some of the balconies, which is pretty magical when you’re having your morning coffee and watching the locals walk their dogs below.

The apartments themselves are spacious in a way that makes you wonder why anyone stays in cramped hotel rooms anymore. I’m talking proper kitchens with everything you need (even a decent coffee maker, thank god), and living areas where you can actually spread out your stuff without feeling like you’re living out of a suitcase. The furnishings are modern but not cold – someone clearly thought about what actual people want when they’re staying somewhere for more than a night or two. What really won me over was the attention to small details: good water pressure in the shower, blackout curtains that actually block light, and – this might sound weird – but the WiFi reaches every corner of the apartment, including the balcony where you’ll probably end up spending half your time anyway.

Here’s the thing about Icod de los Vinos that you won’t realize until you’re there – it’s perfectly positioned for exploring northern Tenerife without dealing with the tourist chaos of the southern resorts. The famous thousand-year-old dragon tree is literally a ten-minute walk away, and you can hit the volcanic beaches of Playa de San Marcos in about five minutes by car. Plus, and this is key, there’s actual parking available, which anyone who’s driven around Tenerife will tell you is not something to take for granted. The staff genuinely seems to care about helping you figure out the area – they pointed me toward this incredible local restaurant (Casa Gaspar) that I never would have found on my own, and gave me the real scoop on when to visit the dragon tree to avoid the tour buses. Look, it’s not beachfront, and it’s not going to blow your mind with over-the-top amenities, but if you want a comfortable base for exploring the island while feeling like you’re actually living somewhere instead of just passing through, this place delivers. The 8.7 rating makes perfect sense once you spend a few days here.

    The apartment is beautiful and looks exactly like in the photos. The view from the balcony is amazing. Wifi was functioning great with 4 people working at the same time. All the amenities are there – washing machine (including laundry tablets), dishwasher (including dishwasher tablets), hair dryer.

    Communication with the hosts was smooth.

    What could be improved: It would be nice to have the apartment cleaned for a longer stay as a default.

    The apartment was overall ok in size but the bedroom was tight and not easy to move around in

    What could be improved: The spiral staircase was not easy to navigate with luggage and as a senior citizen it was not very practical. The sensor activating light in the evening is in the wrong place. The light only comes on when you are 1/3 down the staircase. Not good from a health and safety point of view. The induction cooker was a nightmare to operate and the absence of instructions made it worse. Either there is something wrong with it or we were pressing the wrong buttons?

    The water taps were loose, especially in the kitchen.

    Parking lot missing (look at the airbnb, they declare it)

    The apartment door was not properly sealed.

    The balcony door let in all the noise from the street.

    There were no curtains, making it impossible to darken the room for sleeping.

    Coffee capsules were not replenished on the day of arrival, despite being declared as provided. They were brought only the next day before noon, forcing us to buy our own.
