You know what struck me first about Avenue Study? It’s tucked away on this quiet stretch of Avenida Europa where most tourists never venture – I mean, everyone heads straight to the beach promenade, but this spot is actually perfect if you want to experience El Médano like someone who lives here. The building itself is understated, sort of blends into the neighborhood in that effortless Spanish way where everything just feels right without trying too hard.

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place (you know how that usually goes), but the owners here really get it. The rooms are clean and thoughtfully set up – nothing fancy, but there’s this attention to detail that makes you feel like someone actually cares about your stay. The Wi-Fi works properly, which is honestly more than I can say for some of the pricier hotels I’ve stayed at in the Canaries. What really won me over though was how quiet it gets at night. El Médano can get pretty lively during windsurfing season, but Avenue Study sits just far enough from the action that you’ll actually sleep well, while still being an easy walk to everything that matters.

The location is actually brilliant once you figure it out – you’re about a 10-minute stroll to the main beach, but here’s the thing locals know: there’s a little path that cuts through near the old church that gets you there in half the time. Plus, you’re right in the middle of the real El Médano, where people actually live and work. There’s this fantastic little bakery two blocks down that opens at 7 AM (the smell of fresh bread will probably wake you up, but trust me, it’s worth it), and the family-run restaurant across the street serves the best papas arrugadas I’ve had outside of someone’s grandmother’s kitchen. The staff at Avenue Study will point you toward these places – they’re not trying to steer you to tourist traps, which I really appreciated. I mean, the fact that this place maintains a 9-rating tells you everything about how they treat their guests. It’s not trying to be something it’s not, but what it does, it does really well.
