Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of places in the Canary Islands, but Apto Residencial Terrazas de Sotavento honestly surprised me in the best way possible. When you first pull up to Calle Juan de la Cosa – and yes, parking is actually pretty straightforward here, which is a minor miracle in this part of Granadilla de Abona – the building doesn’t scream “luxury resort.” It’s more like discovering a really well-kept secret that the locals have been hoarding.

The thing about this place is that it sits in this perfect sweet spot where you’re close enough to the Tenerife South Airport that you’re not dealing with those brutal transfer times (I mean, who wants to spend two hours in a taxi after a long flight?), but far enough away that you’re not hearing planes overhead every twenty minutes. The terrazas – the terraces – are where this place really shines, honestly. You get these views that stretch toward the coast, and in the evening when the light hits just right, you understand why they named it after the trade winds. The sotavento side of the island has this completely different energy than the touristy northern coast – it’s drier, more rugged, but there’s something almost meditative about it.

What really got me was how the staff seemed to actually know the area. When I asked about hiking trails (because let’s be real, you didn’t come to Tenerife to sit inside), they didn’t just hand me a generic brochure. They told me about this path that connects to the older parts of Granadilla, where you can still see some of the original Canarian architecture without fighting crowds of tour groups. The apartments themselves are spacious in a way that most hotel rooms just aren’t – you’ve got proper counter space, a fridge that actually keeps things cold, and these surprisingly comfortable beds. I’m usually pretty sensitive to street noise, but the nights here are genuinely quiet. You might hear some distant conversation from other terraces, but it’s more like a gentle hum than anything disruptive.

The only thing I’d mention – and this isn’t really a complaint – is that you’ll want to rent a car if you’re planning to explore beyond the immediate area. There’s a small market within walking distance for basics, and honestly, the local bread there is incredible (the woman who runs it has been there for decades and knows everyone in the neighborhood). But if you want to hit the beaches or venture into the mountains, you’ll need wheels. That said, the location makes it super easy to reach both the dramatic black sand beaches of the south coast and some of the better hiking trails that most tourists never find. It’s one of those places where you feel like you’re experiencing the real Tenerife, not just the resort version of it.

  Logement parfait, très propre avec de petites attentions.
  Nous avons passé un excellent séjour dans cet appartement où tout est réuni pour se sentir bien.
  Nous avons profité de la piscine (un peu fraîche à cette période) et du paddle grâce aux 4 raquettes fournies.
  Dès notre arrivée, l'hôte nous as mis à l'aise et à répondu à nos questions (conseils) très rapidement lors de notre séjour.
  Les principaux sites à visiter dans l'île sont très facilement accessible en voiture!
  Nous avons déjà loué de nombreux appartements mais, à coup sûr, celui-ci restera dans nos mémoires. Un vrai coup de cœur!
