Hotel Description
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Apartment Flor Azul, I wasn’t expecting much from the outside. It’s tucked right on Avenida Arquitecto Gómez Cuesta, which sounds fancy but is actually just one of those typical Playa de las Americas streets where you’ve got apartment blocks mixed with tourist spots. But you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones that don’t try too hard to impress you from the sidewalk.
The thing about this place is that it gets the basics really, really right. The apartments themselves are surprisingly spacious – I mean, we’re talking actual room to spread out, not those cramped hotel boxes where you’re practically sleeping on top of your suitcase. The kitchenettes are properly equipped too, which honestly saved me a fortune because eating out every meal in Las Americas will drain your wallet faster than you’d think. What really caught me off guard was how quiet it stays at night, considering you’re literally in the heart of everything. I was expecting to hear the usual Las Americas soundtrack of drunk British tourists stumbling home at 3 AM, but the way the building’s positioned, you’re sort of sheltered from the main party chaos.
The location is actually pretty clever when you think about it. You’re close enough to walk to Playa de Troya in about ten minutes (and trust me, that’s the beach you want – not the crowded mess that is Playa de las Americas proper), but far enough up the hill that you don’t get the constant stream of beach vendors and street performers outside your window. There’s a decent Mercadona just a few blocks down if you need groceries, and honestly, the walk to the main strip gives you just enough time to mentally prepare for the tourist madness or decompress on your way back. Parking can be a bit of a nightmare during peak season – I mean, this is Las Americas, so that’s hardly a surprise – but the building has some spots, and there’s usually something available if you’re willing to walk a block or two.
What really sets Flor Azul apart is the staff, though. They actually seem to care about whether you’re having a decent stay, which sounds like bare minimum hospitality but you’d be surprised how rare that is in this part of Tenerife. The check-in was smooth, they gave me proper local recommendations (not just the touristy stuff), and when I had an issue with the air conditioning, someone was up to fix it within an hour. The whole vibe is more like staying at a well-run apartment complex than a hotel, which I actually prefer – less stuffy, more relaxed.
Is it perfect? Well, no. The WiFi can be spotty during busy periods, and the décor is pretty standard apartment-rental stuff – functional but nothing to write home about. But honestly, for the price point and the fact that you’re getting genuine space and comfort right in the middle of one of Tenerife’s busiest resort areas, it’s a solid choice. Especially if you’re the type who wants to be able to pop down to the beach or grab dinner without planning a whole expedition, but also wants to actually sleep at night.
