Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of vacation rentals across the Canary Islands, but this place in Los Picachos actually surprised me. When you first pull up to Apartment am Meer mit Pool on Calle Doctora Inmaculada Expósito Marrero (yes, it’s a mouthful – I just saved it in my phone as “the good apartment”), you’re not immediately blown away by the exterior. It’s honestly pretty typical for this part of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. But here’s the thing – Los Picachos isn’t trying to be flashy. It’s where locals actually live, and that’s exactly why I loved it.

The apartment itself is surprisingly well-thought-out. I mean, you can tell someone who actually uses vacation rentals designed this space. The kitchen has those little extras you never think about until you need them – a proper coffee maker, not just some sad instant stuff, and enough counter space to actually prep meals if you’re trying to save a few euros. The pool area is where this place really shines though. It’s not huge, but it’s clean and never felt crowded, even when I was there during peak season in July. You get these mountain views that honestly make you forget you’re just 20 minutes from the city center. The water stays cool even in the afternoon heat, which – trust me – matters when it’s pushing 30 degrees.

What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night. You’re far enough from the main tourist strips that you don’t have people stumbling around at 2 AM, but close enough that you can easily drive into Santa Cruz for dinner or hit up some of the better beaches on the east coast. Parking is actually straightforward here, which anyone who’s driven around Tenerife knows is not always a given. The check-in was smooth too – no awkward key exchanges or confusing instructions, just simple and efficient. I stayed for a week and honestly started to feel like a temporary local. There’s a small grocery store about a 5-minute walk away, and the woman who runs it started recognizing me by day three. That’s the kind of neighborhood feel you get in Los Picachos that you just don’t find in the resort areas. If you’re looking for somewhere that feels authentic but still has the amenities to make your vacation comfortable, this spot delivers. The 9.1 rating isn’t just inflated tourist enthusiasm – it’s earned.

  It's a very nice place with a very nice view from windows. On one side (living room) you can see the ocean and watch sunrises – it's in front of you. In another, from bedrooms – mountains. The hosts are nice. You even have an underground parking lot if there is no place to park a car outside. You can use beach equipment – mats and umbrella, snorkeling masks and tubes. Nice balcony with an improvised soft coach. A very good WIFI.
  
  What could be improved: I just missed an oven instead of a microwave, but that's a minor inconvenience.

  The terrace is very private as there is a wall, there is rarely people using the swimming pool so you have many chances to find a moment to go alone, the apartment itself is very pleasant, the best we've been in Tenerife. The owners are also very nice !

  This is a very quiet location far away from the main tourist areas. There is literally nothing there but the town has a supermarket and a small beach. The flat is nice, much better than in the photos, not spacious, well furnished. Good value for money.
  
  What could be improved: There are some construction sites around and one just in front of your bedroom. The bathroom needs improvements. There's also a lightpost in front of the bedroom window getting you straight light all night. So you need to put blinds for the whole night. Be aware of small ants. Hosts asked to check out earlier and also take the garbage.

  L'appartement est propre et il y a tout ce qu'il faut dans l'appartement. Nous avons eu une belle vue sur la mer sur le balcon. De l'autre côté du logement on a eu la vue sur le Teide. Le supermarché est à 2 minutes à pied. Il n'y a pas de restaurants dans la petite commune mais il y en a dans les autres communes à côté, 10, 20 minutes en voiture. Le hôte Bernd a bien expliqué et l'arrivée s'est très bien passée également. Je recommande le logement.

  Die Unterkunft war sehr sauber, gut ausgestattete Kü he, sehr gute Matratze. Die Möglichkeit den Pool zu nutzen haben wir nur einmal wahrgenommen, wir sind lieber ins nahegelegene Meer gegangen.

  Die Poolanlage ist super, auch wenn man sich leicht beobachtet vorkommt in der Mitte der ganzen Häuser. Kontakt mit Vermietern freundlich und unkompliziert. Die fußläufige Erreichbarkeit des Meeres und auch der Blick ist super. Grundausstattung wie Spülmaschinentabs und Waschmittel, Essig/Öl etc vorhanden.
  
  What could be improved: Relativ wenig Ausstattung in der Küche vorhanden, sehr minimalistisch ausgestattet – fast keine Brettchen oder scharfe Messer zum schneiden vorhanden, wenig Besteck. Für zwei Personen möglich, wenn fast jeden Tag die Spülmaschine läuft, für 4 Personen nicht ausreichend. Sehr weiche Matratze im großen Schlafzimmer. Das Bett im zweiten Zimmer ist ok. Das Sofa im Wohnzimmer ist sehr unbequem, längeres sitzen am Abend zu zweit fast nicht möglich. Ein Schirm auf dem Balkon wäre sinnvoll, ebenso wie Vorhänge oder Rollos zum verdunkeln des Wohnzimmers. Selbst im November fast unerträglich heiß in den Morgenstunden aufgrund der Sonneneinstrahlung. Vor dem Schlafzimmer befindet sich aktuell eine Baustelle, die leider Lärm verursacht, ebenso wie viele in der Nachbarschaft und in der Anlage wohnende sehr oft bellende Hunde.
