Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Aparthotel Los Dragos del Sur? It’s actually right on Avenida Marítima, which means you’re literally steps from Puerto Santiago’s waterfront – I mean, you can hear the waves from your room if you get one facing the ocean. The building itself is pretty typical for a 3-star aparthotel in this part of Tenerife, nothing fancy but honestly, that’s not why you’re here. What I loved is how it sits right in the sweet spot where the locals hang out too, not just tourists. There’s this little bakery about two blocks inland where the staff actually goes for their morning coffee, and the Friday market practically sets up at your doorstep.

The apartments themselves are bigger than you’d expect – I had friends visit and we could actually spread out without tripping over each other. Kitchen’s functional (though the coffee maker takes forever, fair warning), and the balconies… well, if you luck out with a sea view, you’ll spend way too much time out there. The pool area gets packed around 11 AM when the German families claim their spots, but early morning or late afternoon it’s perfect for a quiet swim. One thing nobody mentions in the official descriptions is how well-insulated the place is – Puerto Santiago can get surprisingly windy, especially in winter, but inside you barely notice. The 8.3 rating makes sense when you factor in the location and space you get for the price point.

What really sells this place for me is the neighborhood vibe. You’re walking distance to Los Gigantes cliffs (seriously, just follow the coastal path for about 15 minutes), but you’re also close enough to the ferry terminal that day trips to La Gomera are totally doable. The staff speaks decent English, though they really warm up if you attempt any Spanish – María at reception gave me the best restaurant recommendations, including this tiny place up the hill that doesn’t even have a sign. Parking can be a bit tight during high season, but there’s usually something within a block or two. The only real downside? The Wi-Fi gets spotty during peak evening hours when everyone’s streaming, but honestly, you’re in one of the most beautiful corners of the Canary Islands – maybe that’s not such a bad thing.

Reviews

  • Fantastic Location and Comfortable Room – Vuko from Montenegro – 19 June 2025 (9/10)

Excellent accommodation in a great location. The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable, with all the necessary amenities and a beautiful view of the beach and the sea.

What could be improved: The food at the restaurant was average.

  • Excellent stay – Dave from United Kingdom – 16 June 2025 (9/10)

This is the second time i have stayed and i am again very happy with this. The apartment with sea views is immense, a great big space with separate bathroom and bedroom. All the amenities that you need in the kitchen and the view is fantastic, sat on the balcony is a treat. Breakfast again was plentiful and an excellent choice, pastries could do with a bit of an upgrade but very very satisfied overall. Overall a fabulous place to stay and would come again

What could be improved: I think an improvement could be the Wifi, its free and has excellent connectivity however it would make life easier if you didn't have to keep logging in daily or when you hadn't used your device for a while as it can be quite cumbersome the process

  • Superb – Richard from United Kingdom – 10 June 2025 (9/10)

    Very friendly and efficient staff.
    Comfortable room.
    Good value.

What could be improved: The cooked breakfast wasn't great.
    Overcooked bacon, undercooked eggs.

  • The hotel was worth the money we paid for our stay. There is no entertainment in the evenings for either children or adu – Maryna from Ireland – 8 June 2025 (9/10)

The best thing about our room was the view from the window. When you wake up and open your eyes, you see the sea. And despite the fact that there is a road below, you can hardly hear it. My advice – take a room with a sea view. On the 4th floor, where we lived, there was a swimming pool with very clean water and a small pool for children. On our floor in the hall there was a small library, where I saw modern bestsellers in English, Spanish and French. Breakfasts at the hotel are delicious and varied, including many types of fruit and even dietary chia seeds with yogurt. The room is cleaned every day. The bed linen was very clean. Many cafes and shops along the embankment. I did not know this, but almost each souvenir shop inside is a small supermarket with water, cigarettes, sweets and personal hygiene items, creams, shampoos and other stuff. Anyway, the best way to do your grocery shopping is to do it at Lidl (15-20 min walk) and Mercadona (taxi 7-10€), not at Super Dino. On the way there you will enjoy the beautiful scenery and meet the sunset. The staff is very helpful and friendly, speaks English and 24/7 available.

What could be improved: There was no hairdryer in the room. We had to take it to the reception and leave a deposit of 10 €. There is no iron either. We did not need it, but those who do, keep this in mind. There is a safe in the room, but you also buy the key at the reception for 2.5 € per day + 10 € deposit.
The bar staff were wearing dirty clothes stained with drinks, which discouraged anyone from ordering anything there. Towels were changed twice in 11 days which is good, but some of them were washed poorly. They smelled of unwashed linen. Despite the fact that the hotel is on the first line, you still have to walk to the beach for 10-15 minutes, but good news – it is in a straight line. The sand is black and really burning for feet. The waves are often strong and huge for children, even for women. Information about sand and waves does not apply to the characteristics of the hotel, but can affect its choice, so I leave it here.

  • Great location – Rafal from United Kingdom – 12 May 2025 (9/10)

  • Superb – Domin7 from Poland – 9 April 2025 (9/10)

We had an ocean view room, very spacious, it had everything one would need for a holiday stay. The kitchen had all the tools and appliances needed to make breakfast, lunch or dinner. The hotel has a nice open floor with a pool. The breakfast was 10/10. We enjoyed the stay. Highly recommend!

  • Good – Denisa from United Kingdom – 7 April 2025 (7/10)

    Breakfast was amazing :).
    Rooms little dated but clean.
Location is good, we had a car so that helped

  • Our 4th visit to Los Dragos del Sur – Gillian from United Kingdom – 1 April 2025 (8/10)

Excellent location close to a range of bars and restaurants. Very good breakfast included in a very reasonably priced room rate.

What could be improved: I should have booked a sea view room.

  • Very good – Ana from United Kingdom – 29 March 2025 (8/10)

The flat was of a good size and overall was nice

The negative was that the beds were not that comfortable.
