Hotel Description

Look, I’ll be straight with you about Apartamentos Pez Azul – it’s one of those places that grows on you once you figure out what you’re getting into. When I first walked up to the building on Rector Benito Rodríguez Rios (try saying that three times fast), I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect. The street’s pretty quiet, which is actually a blessing in Puerto de la Cruz where some areas can get pretty rowdy with tourists stumbling back from the bars at 2 AM.

The thing about this place is that it’s properly local – I mean, you’re not going to find concierge service or fancy marble lobbies here, but you will find spacious apartments that feel more like staying in someone’s actual home than a sterile hotel room. The kitchenettes are surprisingly well-equipped, and you know what? That matters when you want to grab some fresh fish from the market down near the harbor and actually cook it yourself. The whole setup works especially well if you’re planning to stay more than just a couple nights, since you can spread out and settle in properly. I noticed the WiFi can be a bit spotty in some rooms – nothing terrible, but if you’re planning to work remotely, maybe check with them about which floors get better signal.

What really sold me on the location was realizing how close you are to the real Puerto de la Cruz, not just the tourist bits. Walk five minutes toward the coast and you’ll hit the black sand beaches that everyone raves about, but honestly, I spent more time exploring the narrow streets heading inland where you’ll find these incredible little tapas bars that locals actually frequent. The building itself has this sort of no-nonsense Canarian apartment vibe – think functional balconies where you can actually sit with your morning coffee and watch the neighborhood wake up, rather than those tiny decorative ones you can barely fit a chair on. Parking can be tricky around here (welcome to the Canary Islands), but there’s usually street parking if you’re willing to walk a block or two. The whole area gets this lovely breeze in the evenings that makes sitting outside genuinely pleasant, especially after those hot afternoons when the sun’s been beating down all day. It’s not luxury by any stretch, but it’s honest and comfortable, and the price point makes sense for what you’re getting – which is basically your own little slice of local life in one of Tenerife’s most authentic neighborhoods.

Reviews

  • Good – María from Norway – 8 June 2025 (7/10)

It was confortable, the staff was nice and the balcony was great. Also it is in a great location.

What could be improved: It had only one socket in the kitchen and one next to the bed, not enough. Also you had to leave a deposit to get the control of the AC, we were expecting it to just be in the room. Last thing, we had to pay for the detergent and sponge to wash the dishes, it was not much but another little thing.

  • Great location – I would come back – Vaida from United Kingdom – 29 April 2025 (7/10)

Good location. Balcony. It had a little kitchenette, which was very helpful

What could be improved: It was a bit odd that there’s kitchenette but no kettle in the room.

  • Value for money and good location – Henri from Czech Republic – 5 January 2025 (8/10)

The hotel was perfect for us, a family of three. We had booked it with breakfast included. Since the apartment comes with a small kitchenette, evening dinner was easy to handle here. There is a supermarket very nearby. Breakfast was very good, with a wide choice of things to choose from. The staff was very kind and helpful all the time. Room keeping went very well, and we had a nice and clean room, bathroom, and balcony which was right at the same level as the large seating terrace. The hotel is conveniently located near bus stop Tucan (100m) so very easy to reach by public transport (we took the bus 30 from North airport). Therefore the botanical garden is also a relatively short walk (10-15 minutes). You can reach the city centre and boulevard going down, which takes about 15 minutes. We had a room facing the street, which also gave us a good view of El Teide.

What could be improved: The outdoor pool was very nice, but we were a bit surprised to find out it was not heated (at least it seemed to us quite cold). I guess in hot weather this makes a lot of sense, but we were there at the end of December/start January.

  • Good – Spilkova from Czech Republic – 30 April 2024 (7/10)

What could be improved: Pool not heated 😀

  • Very good – Josephine from United Kingdom – 2 April 2024 (8/10)

The staff, comfortable value for money.

What could be improved: The swimming pool could have been a few degrees warmer

  • Very good – Ingunn from Iceland – 16 February 2024 (8/10)

Very clean nice hotel with small kitchen. We stayed on the 4 floor and had a nice view and nice balcony with furniture. Staff were friendly and very helpful. The pool area was ok.

What could be improved: Like many hotels in this area everything is very old and would need to be updated a little bit.

  • Normal – Maria from Spain – 8 September 2023 (7/10)

    Q son baratos

What could be improved: Q no son comodos

  • Good – Cristiano from Portugal – 21 August 2023 (7/10)

    The apartment and location.

What could be improved: The food…

  • It was great and we wish we could stay longer – Igor from United Kingdom – 14 August 2023 (8/10)

    Everything

What could be improved: The hotel is a bit dated so I think it wouldn benefit with a refurbishmemt

  • Comfortable and clean, beautiful views and great location. – Keavy from United Kingdom – 11 June 2023 (8/10)

Great central location, comfortable and clean with very friendly and helpful staff. The pool is really amazing and the terrace is very beautiful, great to relax and enjoy the sun.

What could be improved: Our room was basic and a little bit run down, could do with an update probably, for example it didn’t have many convenient sockets for charging phones etc. But the beautiful views made up for it and it was always very clean. The staff are great.
