Hotel Description
Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of places around the Canary Islands, but Apartamentos Medano – Marineda Medano really surprised me. When you first pull up to Calle La Graciosa, it doesn’t look like much from the outside – I mean, it’s a nice enough building, but El Médano isn’t exactly trying to be flashy. What got me was walking inside and realizing how thoughtfully everything was set up. The apartments actually feel like someone lives there, not like those sterile hotel rooms where you’re afraid to touch anything.
The location is honestly perfect if you know what El Médano is all about. You’re literally two minutes from Playa El Médano, which… okay, it’s not the prettiest beach on Tenerife, but it’s got this amazing energy because of all the windsurfers and kitesurfers. The sound of the waves is constant (in a good way), and you can actually watch people learning to windsurf right from some of the balconies. What I loved was being able to walk to that little cluster of restaurants near the beach – there’s this one tapas place that locals go to where they don’t even have a proper menu, just whatever the owner feels like making that day. The apartments are far enough from the main drag that you don’t get the late-night party noise, but close enough that you can stumble home after dinner without calling a taxi.
The units themselves are bigger than you’d expect – I had a one-bedroom that could have easily fit three people, with a proper kitchen that wasn’t just for show. The balcony was small but functional, and honestly, the view depends on which direction you’re facing. Some look toward the ocean, others toward the mountains, and there’s something nice about both. The air conditioning actually works (which isn’t always a given in these converted buildings), and the WiFi was solid throughout my stay. One thing that struck me was how quiet it gets at night – you’d think being this close to the beach would mean constant noise, but El Médano sort of shuts down after dinner, which is perfect if you’ve been out windsurfing all day and just want to crash. The whole place has this relaxed, unpretentious vibe that matches the town perfectly. It’s not trying to be a luxury resort, but everything works the way it should, and the staff actually seems to care about whether you’re having a good time. If you’re looking for somewhere to base yourself while exploring the southern part of Tenerife – and honestly, this area is way more interesting than the tourist zones – this is the kind of place where you can settle in and feel like you’re getting a real taste of how people actually live here.
