Apartamento renovado en Puerto de la Cruz

You know what caught me off guard about this place? The fact that it actually lives up to that “renovated” promise in the name. I mean, you see that word thrown around a lot in Puerto de la Cruz listings, but this apartment on Calle Puerto Viejo genuinely feels fresh and thoughtfully updated. The owner clearly put some real effort into making it feel like a proper home rather than just another rental – there’s this nice balance between modern touches and keeping that authentic Canarian character intact.

The location is honestly one of those sweet spots that locals know about but tourists often miss. You’re right in the heart of the old town area, which means you can actually walk to the black sand beaches without that annoying uphill climb back (trust me, your legs will thank you after a day of exploring). The street itself is pretty quiet, especially compared to some of the main drags where the tour groups tend to cluster. I stayed here during shoulder season and barely heard any noise at night, though I imagine it might get a bit livelier in summer – but that’s Puerto de la Cruz for you. What I really appreciated was being able to grab fresh bread from the local bakery just around the corner in the morning, and there’s this little family-run restaurant about two blocks away that does incredible papas arrugadas that you’d never find in the guidebooks.

The apartment itself feels bigger than you’d expect from the photos – there’s something about the way they’ve arranged the space that just works. The kitchen is actually functional (I cooked a few meals and didn’t feel like I was playing Tetris with the cookware), and the shower has proper water pressure, which honestly can be hit or miss in older buildings around here. The WiFi was solid throughout my stay, which mattered since I was doing some work remotely. Now, it’s not luxury accommodation – this is a solid 3-star experience that delivers exactly what it promises without any pretense. The building itself shows its age a bit, and the elevator is one of those charmingly tiny European ones, but everything works fine. Check-in was smooth, and the property manager was actually helpful with local recommendations rather than just handing over keys and disappearing. For the price point and that 7.5 rating, it’s pretty much spot-on – comfortable, clean, and genuine without trying to be something it’s not.

  There is kitchen equipment, so theoretically you can cook. In practice its impossible cause there is no knife, oil, oven paper, etc. So you need to buy everything.
  Warm water pressure is very low in the shower.
  Therefor no cold water in the kitchen. So you basically making the dishwashing in boiling water.
  There is a washing machine, but no washing powder or washing line to hang the cloths.
  And as I wrote it to the landlord, she said amb probably took it. Which didnt solve a problem at all.

  Die Lage der Wohnung ist super. Die Gastgeberin war nett, hilfsbereit und aufmerksam. Einige der Sachen, die in anderen Bewertungen teilweise kritisiert werden, können wir nicht bestätigen. Die Dusche ist sowohl in Sachen Temperatur als auch in Sachen Wasserdruck absolut in Ordnung. Ein Wäscheständer ist vorhanden (der war noch original verpackt als wir gekommen sind). Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis ist unserer Meinung nach sehr gut.
  
  What could be improved: Da gibt es eigentlich nichts erwähnenswertes. Den kleinen Schwimmbecken können wir nicht bewerten da wir den nicht benutzt haben, wir sind im Freibad oder im Meer schwimmen gewesen.

  Sijainti erinomainen. Asunnossa oli perusasiat, huonekalut, keittiövarusteet.
  
  What could be improved: Ylimääräisiä pyyhkeitä kaipasin, esim. käsi- ja lattiapyyhe kylpyhuoneeseen, uintia varten jne. Avaimet eivät toimineet, esim uima-altaalle en päässyt, kun avain ei avannut allasalueen portin lukkoa. Myös asuntoon menevän terassin ovea en saanut lainkaan lukkoon! Torakka kylpyhuoneessa oli ikävä yllätys viikon aikana.
