You know what caught me off guard about Apartamento Grosso? The name honestly made me chuckle at first, but this place is actually a gem tucked away on Calle Bambú in Chayofa – and I mean properly tucked away, which turns out to be half the charm. When I first pulled up (parking’s no issue here, by the way), I wasn’t expecting much from the exterior, but stepping inside completely changed my perspective. The apartment feels like someone’s stylish home that they’ve graciously opened up to travelers, not some sterile hotel room where everything’s bolted down and wrapped in plastic.

The location is brilliant if you know Tenerife well – Chayofa sits right between the tourist madness of Los Cristianos and the more authentic local vibe you get further inland. I actually spent most mornings walking down to the coast, which takes about fifteen minutes if you don’t mind a bit of a slope, or you can easily drive to any of the southern beaches in under ten minutes. What I loved most was coming back in the evenings to actual quiet – you’re far enough from the main tourist strips that you won’t hear drunk Brits singing football chants at 2 AM (trust me, I’ve been there), but close enough that you can join them if that’s your thing. The whole Chayofa area feels residential and peaceful, with local families going about their business and proper Spanish bars where you can get a decent café con leche without paying tourist prices.

The apartment itself is spacious – I mean really spacious compared to most holiday rentals I’ve stayed in across the Canary Islands. Everything feels thoughtfully chosen rather than just functional, from the comfortable seating where you can actually relax with a book, to a kitchen that’s equipped well enough that I found myself cooking more than I planned. The bed was proper comfortable too, which honestly surprised me given how many places cut corners there. Little touches throughout show someone cares about this place – fresh towels that don’t feel like sandpaper, decent water pressure in the shower, and windows that actually keep the sound out when you want to sleep. Check-in was smooth, no standing around waiting for someone to show up with keys, and the whole experience felt more like borrowing a friend’s place than dealing with typical rental bureaucracy. If you’re looking for somewhere that feels like a real home base for exploring southern Tenerife – whether you want to hike in the mountains, laze on beaches, or just escape the resort crowds – this spot delivers exactly what you didn’t know you were looking for.
