Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of places across the Canary Islands, but this little gem in Los Silos actually surprised me. Apartamento Casco La Estrella sits right on Calle la Estrella – and honestly, the name fits because you really do feel like you’ve found something special tucked away here. Most tourists zip right past Los Silos on their way to the flashier spots, but that’s exactly why this place works so well. You’re about ten minutes from Garachico (which, if you haven’t been, is this beautifully restored town that got buried by lava back in 1706), but you’re staying somewhere that feels authentically local instead of touristy.

The apartment itself has that solid, lived-in quality that actually makes you comfortable – I mean, it’s not trying to be some sterile hotel room. You can tell someone put thought into the details without going overboard. The kitchen actually has everything you need if you want to cook, which is great because there’s a little market just down the street where locals shop. I spent a few mornings there picking up fresh bread and whatever fruit looked good, and the woman behind the counter started recognizing me by day three. That’s the kind of neighborhood this is. The location is honestly perfect if you want to explore the north coast properly – you’re close enough to hike the coastal paths around Garachico, but far enough from the crowds that you can actually hear the ocean at night instead of tour buses.

What really sold me on this place was how quiet it gets after sunset. During the day, you’ll hear normal neighborhood sounds – kids playing, people chatting on the street, maybe someone’s radio – but it’s never overwhelming. The building itself seems well-maintained, and I didn’t have any of those annoying issues you sometimes get with vacation rentals (you know, mysterious stains, broken fixtures, keys that don’t work). Check-in was straightforward, parking wasn’t a nightmare like it can be in some of these older towns, and the Wi-Fi actually worked when I needed it. I also appreciated that it felt secure without being fortress-like – there’s something to be said for staying somewhere that locals clearly live and care about. If you’re the type who wants to be right in the middle of everything happening, this might feel too quiet for you. But if you want a genuine slice of life in northern Tenerife, where you can explore during the day and actually relax at night, this is exactly what you’re looking for.

  It’s a bit tricky to get to the city of Los Silos from south side but it’s a nice place to stay. The mattress was too soft for our liking but other than that everything was fine!
