You know what really got me about this place? The moment I stepped into apartment 1209 at Apartamento Bahía VISTA AL MAR, I actually gasped – and I’m not usually the gasping type. The ocean view from those windows is absolutely ridiculous, stretching across the entire bay of Santa Cruz. I mean, you’re literally looking out at the Atlantic from the 12th floor, and honestly, the photos don’t do it justice.

The building sits right on Avenida de Anaga, which is perfect because you’re close enough to walk into the heart of Santa Cruz (maybe 10-15 minutes to Plaza de España), but far enough from the main tourist chaos to actually get some peace. The apartment itself feels like someone’s well-loved home rather than a sterile rental – there’s this lived-in comfort that makes you want to sprawl on the couch with a glass of wine and just watch the ships come and go in the harbor. The kitchen’s actually functional too, not just for show, which matters if you’re planning to grab fresh fish from the Mercado de Nuestra Señora de África and cook it yourself. The bed was comfortable enough that I overslept twice (the blackout curtains work maybe too well), and the bathroom has one of those rainfall showers that makes you not want to leave.

Here’s the thing about this spot – it’s got that sweet spot location where you can walk to decent restaurants without the cruise ship crowds, and you’re perfectly positioned for day trips around the island. The parking situation is actually manageable, which anyone who’s driven in Santa Cruz will tell you is no small feat. I stayed there in March, so it wasn’t peak season madness, but even then you could tell this place books up fast. The building’s elevator is a bit slow – gives you time to appreciate the anticipation of that view, I suppose. What really sealed it for me was sitting on that little balcony area in the evening, watching the lights come on across the city while the sun set behind the mountains. It’s one of those moments that makes you understand why people fall in love with the Canary Islands in the first place. The 9.5 rating makes complete sense once you’re there – it’s not trying to be a fancy resort, it’s just a really solid place to stay that happens to have million-dollar views at a fraction of the cost.

    3 L – location, location, location!

    Outstanding view of the harbor! Walking distance to grocery stores and restaurants. Complete apartment facilities. So relaxing that we just stayed in the apartment for the 3 days between cruises, even though we'd thought to do some sightseeing. We'd been doing so many shore excursions that we were a bit tired, and looking forward to many more shore excursions on the next cruise. Nice to have bit of a break!

    The apartment owner kindly showed us, from the apartment, where to walk for groceries and other shops.

    The view is really nice, located at 12th floor near the port you can look at the ships going by. Its well equpied, and the bes is comfy.

    What could be improved: It has no air conditioning but the window cover plus the fan make it cool enough for the night.

    Fantastic location, amazing views and great host. Walking distance to shops, bars and restaurants. Perfect bus communication but not needed because it it very central. In perfect shape all you need was there. Overall very comfortable. Can't wait to visit again.

    The view was awesome, although there was calima. The sun shines right in the room in the morning which I liked a lot, but if it become too much there is a heavy curtain falling from the ceiling. The room is spacious and the bed – comfortable. It was very clean and neat.

    What could be improved: Minor thing but there was no place to put our bathroom toiletries in the shower cabin (shampoo, shower gel etc). Other than that it was perfect. There was some (expected) noise from the nearby harbour, which was no issue for us.
