Hotel Description
You know what caught me off guard about Alquilaencanarias-Medano Tío Claudio? The name makes it sound like some generic rental property, but honestly, this place has way more personality than that suggests. I mean, sure, it’s technically vacation rentals, but they’ve got that boutique hotel vibe down – especially with that prime spot right on Picacho street, literally steps from El Médano’s main beach.
The thing about El Médano is that it’s not your typical Tenerife resort town. It’s got this laid-back, almost bohemian feel that draws windsurfers and kitesurfers from all over Europe, and this place fits right into that scene. The apartments (well, they call them that, but they feel more like hotel suites) actually face the ocean, so you’re waking up to the sound of waves and – I’ll be honest – sometimes the wind, because this is windsurfing central for a reason. But that ocean breeze is exactly what keeps things comfortable even in summer when the rest of the island can feel pretty intense.
What I really appreciated was how they’ve managed to keep things authentic without skimping on the good stuff. The interiors have this clean, modern Spanish coastal thing going on – think whitewashed walls and terracotta touches rather than generic hotel furniture. And the kitchenettes are actually functional, which matters when you’re staying more than a couple nights and want to grab fresh fish from the local market (there’s a great little one just a few blocks inland where the locals shop). The WiFi’s solid too, which I mention because, well, island internet can be hit or miss.
Location-wise, you’re right in the sweet spot. The famous Red Mountain – Montana Roja – is literally your backdrop, and you can walk to the natural pools at the base in about ten minutes. The main beach strip with all the windsurf shops and that excellent seafood place, Casa Tomás, is right there. But here’s the thing most people don’t realize until they visit – El Médano never really gets crazy crowded like Los Cristianos or Playa de las Américas. Even in peak season, it maintains this relaxed, locals-know-best kind of atmosphere.
The 8.4 rating makes sense once you’ve been there. It’s not flashy or over-the-top luxury, but everything works well and the staff clearly knows the area. They’re the type who’ll tell you the best time to hit the hiking trail to avoid the afternoon wind, or which nights the local bars have live music. Check-in was smooth – none of that hunting-around-for-the-key-pickup nonsense you sometimes get with vacation rentals.
I’d say this works best if you want to experience a more authentic slice of Tenerife without giving up comfort. It’s perfect for people who like the idea of a home base where you can make your own coffee in the morning, but also want someone to call if the air conditioning acts up. Just don’t expect a pool – with the ocean literally across the street, they figured (correctly) that you probably don’t need one.

Best location ever – Andrei from Netherlands – 7 December 2024 (9/10)
Best location ever. 20 meters from the beach, tons of restaurants and supermarkets nearby.
What could be improved: First few days was strong smell in the bedroom like somebody sweated a lot and all this sweat goes to matrass. After a week the smell gone.Central townhouse apartment in lively area very close to beach. – Paul from Ireland – 20 November 2024 (9/10)
Location is great, very close to beach and right in the centre near nice cafes.
Central stay – Marius from Austria – 30 November 2023 (8/10)
The location is great, 20m from the beach, on a pedestrian area, plenty of restaurants and cafes around. Bus station 5 min away. The Apartment's kitchen is well equipped.
What could be improved: A bit noisy on all sides and since there is no AC it can get loud in the evenings if you leave the windows open. But that's probably a downside in general of living in the main area. Bedroom windows are towards the inner yard/staircase and it gets noisy if open during the evening when neighbors come and go or watch tv 🙂Large apartment in the center of El Medano – Denis from Slovenia – 9 December 2022 (9/10)
For us the location was super – in the center of EL Medano, everything was close by. The apartment is in first floor, very large and comfortable, kitchen is fully equipped. As it is in the main street with restaurants and evening life, it is not suitable for those who are sensitive to noise. Free parking is not available at the location, but there is quite easy to find parking in the streets 5-10 min walking away.
What could be improved: Some pieces of furniture in the apartment are quite old and it would be nice to be replaced.Superb – Katka from Czech Republic – 21 November 2022 (9/10)
very nice apartment with accessories for cooking etc.
good location – near by shops, beach, rental of the car, surf schools.
What could be improved: nothingGood – Andrea from United Kingdom – 22 May 2025 (7/10)
Really close to the beach.
What could be improved: Mattress need updateWould recommend a 4th floor, 1 bed apartment with a balcony – Robert from Romania – 24 June 2023 (8/10)
Nice place, professional hosts… collected the keys at 01.10 am.
Everything was perfectHouse is ok. Position is great. The agency should improve. – Giudici from Italy – 20 June 2023 (8/10)
Awesome position! It is in the middle of the main "hotspots" of El Medano. The bedroom remains fresh.
What could be improved: The house inside is ok. Be wary the shower can be very slippery! What I didn't like the most is that the agency managing the house didn't provide me with the keys for the laundry which is in the terrace. I asked the guy who give me the key to have them asap and I even sent a reminder via Watsapp the day after. They haven't even answered to that…Good – Fausta from Lithuania – 22 April 2025 (7/10)
Near the beach
What could be improved: Everything is old,,broken, bad feelingExceptional – Valeriia from Netherlands – 5 October 2023 (10/10)
Staff was really nice and helpful, location was great! Beach is literally downstairs, supermarket and a lot of cafes are super close.
What could be improved: Apartment has ventilators instead of A/C, which was manageable, but sometimes still too hot. Other than that, everything was good;)
