La Laguna isn’t your typical Tenerife beach destination (you’ll need to head down to the coast for that), but if you want to experience the real Canary Islands culture, this UNESCO World Heritage town is where it’s at. The hotel itself feels refreshingly unpretentious – think clean lines, comfortable beds, and staff who actually live in the area and can tell you which local restaurants close on Sundays or where to find parking that won’t cost you a fortune. The building has that restored colonial charm you see throughout La Laguna’s old quarter, with those traditional wooden balconies and thick walls that keep things surprisingly quiet despite being right in the center of everything.

What I really appreciate is how they’ve managed to balance accessibility with authenticity. You’re a five-minute walk from the Cathedral and the colorful houses along Calle Obispo Rey Redondo that everyone photographs, but you’re also close enough to the university area that you’ll hear actual Spanish conversations in the cafés rather than just tourist chatter. The rooms themselves are nothing fancy – and I don’t mean that as a criticism – they’re just thoughtfully designed with good lighting, decent wifi, and bathrooms that actually have proper water pressure. Check-in was smooth, and the front desk folks were genuinely helpful about things like bus schedules to Santa Cruz or which hiking trails are worth your time in the nearby Anaga Mountains. If you’re planning to explore the island by car, there’s street parking nearby, though like anywhere in these historic centers, it can get tight on weekends when the locals come out for their evening paseos.

  Well very placed for access to trams and buses both into Santa Cruz and La Laguna. Angelica very friendly and helpful and quick communication. Supermarket nearby. I did suggest basics such as s little, salt pepper and oil wld be handy but Angelica said they had done so before but guests preferred not since covid? Small point but handy when you are self catering. Perhaps worth mentioning? Would be happy to stay again.
